One person was killed and two others were hurt in a stabbing incident outside a Phish concert in Virginia on Friday, according to authorities.
The Hampton Police Division said officers responded to reports of a stabbing near the Hampton Coliseum at around 9:33 p.m., where they found two male victims suffering from non-life-threatening injuries and one with a life-threatening injury. The latter was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
One of the other victims was also taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment, while the third victim went to a hospital as a walk-in, suffering from a laceration, authorities said.
According to police, a “preliminary investigation revealed that an argument had taken place among several individuals, which escalated into a physical altercation.”
The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot, but “officers in the area were able to locate and detain a possible suspect shortly thereafter,” police stated. Authorities later updated that all parties involved in the stabbing have been identified and that the incident appears to be isolated. The investigation remains ongoing.
The rock band Phish — consisting of Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman and Page McConnell — was performing a show on their Summer 2025 tour at the time. They have one more concert at the Hampton Coliseum on Sunday night.
“During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum,” Phish wrote in a statement following the deadly incident. “There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured.”
They continued, “We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”
