"Star-Studded Secrets: 11 Celebs Who Spilled the Tea in Their Memoirs—But Were They Brewing Lies?"

Added on July 12, 2026 inFree CelebrityNews, Free Entertainment News

In the cosmic dance of truth and fiction, where the stars twist and turn like a captivating plot, a recent controversy has surfaced that could rival even the wildest of astrological predictions. Louise Linton’s memoir, which paints her Zambian volunteer experience in vivid—and, some argue, exaggerated—colors, has sparked a fiery debate. Gerard Zytkow, a local fishing lodge owner, took to Facebook to challenge her recollections, claiming her narrative doesn’t align with the reality he lived. His perspective offers not just an apologia for an era fraught with real struggles, but also raises questions about the nature of memory and storytelling. It’s a testament to how one person’s recollection can become another’s fiction. How do our experiences shape the narratives we choose to tell, especially when influenced by the whims of the cosmos? Find out more about this compelling confrontation as we dive into details that blend reality with the enigmatic artistry of memoir writing. LEARN MORE.

On Facebook, Gerard Zytkow, the owner of a fishing lodge close to Linton’s volunteer site, wrote, “What actually happened at the time, circa 2002. The Banyamulenga were fleeing the conflict further north in the DRC. They entered Zambian waters heading towards Nsumbu. The captain of the first vessel was at pains to assure the people of Zambia that they were NOT coming to attack. I was listening to this on our marine radio. Their vessel was festooned with flags of surrender to make sure we did not misunderstand their intentions. They arrived in Nsumbu and gave themselves up to the authorities there. Heady times to be sure. A bit worrying at the time but certainly not terrifying.

A couple of days later a group of soldiers arrived at Ndole. They had arms but had purposely left them hidden away. They were tired hungry and thirsty. Could we help them please. We gave them food and drink. We put them and their arms in our truck and took them to Nsumbu.

Louise was not at Ndole. She was safely at Kasaba [the lodge she was transferred to]. Relatively far away from all this……
I know all this because I was there. We have owned Ndole since 1984 and still operate in ‘this dangerous spider and crocodile infested’ piece of paradise. Shame on her for her mindboggling and nonsensical fiction. Her book should be banned. Or at least nbe [sic] presented as warped fiction. Love to hear from you all. Tweeters yes……. go ahead and put the record straight.”

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Linton said, “I am genuinely dismayed and very sorry to see that I have offended people as this was the very opposite of my intent.

I wrote this book with the hope of conveying my deep humility, respect and appreciation for the people of Zambia and my sincere hope of making a positive impact there as an 18-year-old volunteer in 1999. I speak at length about the country’s incredible beauty and my immense gratitude for the friendships and experiences I had there. My aim has only ever been to honor Zambia and to share the experience I had there as a means of reminding people to care more deeply about the challenges people face in other regions.

As noted in the book, this memoir is based on my recollection of events from 1999. In regards to Mr. Zytkow’s comment, I was there in 1999 not 2002 and was never posted at Ndole Lodge.”

Zytkow told the outlet that he initially got the date wrong, adding, “I can verify all the other information I posted… I have no axe to grind with Louise (other than over her book)… At no time ever were there any armed personnel/soldiers of any kind (other than a few game guards who were issued with very small rifles) within the boundaries of the park [where her lodge was located]. I am still unable to comprehend why she did this. She claims to have not wanted to do any damage to the people of Zambia… Telling blatant lies does not help — especially when many readers will not be aware of the lies.”
