Remember Britney Spears at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards? That moment when she stepped onto the stage with a giant yellow snake named Banana slithering around her – pure pop culture gold, no cap. Fast forward to today: despite breaking free from her 13-year-long conservatorship, Britney’s not exactly rushing back to the VMA spotlight. Some held out hope for a grand 2025 comeback appearance…but nope, she’s sitting this one out. It’s almost poetic, right? Especially with Mercury doing its usual retrograde dance—maybe stars are aligning for her to shine on her own terms, away from the chaos. Meanwhile, fans can’t stop obsessing over that iconic black bikini-under-sheer-dress look and her flawless “I’m A Slave 4 U” performance, which still sets the gold standard for pop stage magic. And hey, if you catch a vibe that Sabrina Carpenter’s recent VMA set was a nod to Britney’s era, you’re not alone—though most would agree, there’s truly only one queen in this story.
