Isn’t it funny how the stars seem to influence more than just our love lives? Take Broadway, for instance. It’s a wild world where the curtain rises and exhaustion sets in faster than a Mercury retrograde. Our go-to gal, Maria, captures the essence of this experience; she knows the hustle of being on stage—always chasing that elusive balance between work and personal well-being. As she navigates the demanding nature of her craft, she reminds us all to find those moments of clarity—even if it’s just grabbing a few more hours of sleep when the universe isn’t shining too bright. So, let’s dive into her journey, full of unexpected revelations and a dash of humor, and see how she manages to keep her sparkle on and off stage. You won’t want to miss this! LEARN MORE.
Maria: The funny thing about being on Broadway is you start and you’re like, “I’ve never been more exhausted in my entire life. How can I keep this going?” You never stop being exhausted, but you’re able to do it. It just seems to be how it works.
I try to get to the gym fairly often throughout the week. Some weeks are better than others, but I really like to keep my body strong. We have so many drops and things to climb up, so you really do have to be stretching, warming up, and making sure that you’re ready.
Vocally, what was really fun was getting to build the entire thing together, so we made it as sustainable as possible. It’s a matter of knowing yourself, not pushing things too hard, and understanding that over the course of a week, you don’t want to blow everything out on Tuesday.
Really, the secret is sleep. It’s annoying because there’s never enough time in the world for sleep, but I can vocally feel every hour that I don’t sleep. If it’s going to be a six-hour night, I’m like, “Uh-oh. Oh boy.”
I’m really focusing on balancing life and work. We can become so hyper-fixated on work that we aren’t nourishing our souls and our bodies. That’s been my big thing this year: not going too far in either direction.
This has been a big year for me — a lot of big changes, which is great.
