Green Sex Toys Crash NFL Season Opener—Is the WNBA Setting the Saucy Trend That’s Got Football Fuming?

Added on September 9, 2025 inCelebrity News Cards, Sports Cards

So, apparently, the cosmos decided to sprinkle a little extra chaos over the sports world this weekend—with an unexpected payload: bright green sex toys being lobbed onto the fields at both WNBA and NFL games. Now, I’m no astrologer, but with Mercury in retrograde and Mars in a particularly mischievous angle, maybe the heavens are giving us a cheeky nudge to question, “What’s the deal with adults tossing adult toys at professional athletes?” Beyond just spawning a slew of viral videos and sleepless stadium security, this bizarre stunt—engineered by a crypto group looking to hijack controversy—has sparked arrests, public outrage, and some very pointed remarks from coaches and players alike. It’s almost like the universe’s way of saying sports seasons needed a little… excitement? But as the green projectile circus jumps from basketball courts to gridirons, one can’t help but wonder: could this be the start of a new (and weirdly disruptive) sports tradition, or just a passing cosmic prank? Either way, you’re going to want to strap in for this wild ride. LEARN MORE.

The bizarre trend of bright green sex toys making unwelcome appearances at sporting events has officially jumped from the WNBA to the NFL, as two separate games this weekend saw the devices flung onto the field during play. The disturbing trend first emerged during the fourth quarter of a WNBA game and has since continued, resulting in arrests and public condemnation.

On Sunday, September 7, a video quickly made the rounds on social media showing a referee during the Cleveland Browns-Cincinnati Bengals game casually removing a bright green sex toy from the field.

Sex Toys Were Thrown During Multiple WNBA Games This Summer

According to a previous report from The Blast, similar incidents occurred during several WNBA games throughout the 2025 season.

In August, an 18-year-old Kaden Lopez was arrested at PHX Arena after law enforcement claimed he tossed a sex toy in front of him, striking patrons, one of whom was a minor.

Police stated they saw Lopez grab a “green d-ldo from his sweater front pocket” before throwing it ahead of him, while witnesses said they chased him out of the arena before tackling him to the ground.

The adult male who was struck with the flying sex toy said that he was at the game with his 9-year-old niece when he felt the object hit his back.

Lopez was charged with suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault, and public display of sexual material.

Crypto Group Says They’re Behind Flying Sex Toys

After the repeated occurrences of flying sex toys during WNBA games, a cryptocurrency enthusiast told ESPN that his organization devised the stunts to bring attention to a crypto coin his community created.

The man, who goes by the screen name Lt. Daldo Raine, spoke with the publication on the condition of anonymity but revealed that their goal was to generate buzz by tapping into a market that already had “controversy” around it.

“It was more or less like an opportunistic approach to, you know, what is already trending,” he said. “Where is there already controversy, and how do we intercept some of that attention?”

The instances of soaring d-ldos only continued throughout the WNBA, making appearances during Chicago Sky and Los Angeles Sparks games. During press conferences, league officials, specifically Sparks head coach Lynee Roberts, didn’t mince words about the situation, calling it “ridiculous … dumb … [and] stupid.”

Roberts also touched on the dangers it presents, later urging patrons to have respect for the game.

Chicago Sky forward Elizabeth Williams also addressed the matter and branded it “super disrespectful.” She then questioned the purpose behind it before begging those involved with the stunt “to grow up.”

New York Liberty’s Isabelle Harrison shared a similar statement on X, writing, “Hello??! Please do better. It’s not funny. Never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous.”

During another part of Raine’s conversation with ESPN, the cryptocurrency master explained that he and his group were transitioning away from the WNBA and focusing on other sports.

“We’ve got lots of funny things planned,” he said. “Of a less disruptive nature, but we want to keep people looking for us.”

It remains to be seen whether the NFL will issue a league-wide warning similar to the WNBA’s or if it will leave security and fan conduct up to individual teams.

For now, fans and stadium security alike will likely be keeping a much closer eye on the stands.
