What’s cooking in the world of Norman Reedus? Recently, this enigmatic star was spotted sharing his thoughts at the Hong Kong Comic Con with GQ, and oh boy, it looks like anime has officially taken over his brain! Reedus, known for his iconic role in The Walking Dead, revealed that he’s been chatting with game designer extraordinaire Hideo Kojima—yes, the genius behind Death Stranding. It seems Kojima’s enthusiasm rubbed off on him, showing him the captivating world of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man. Rumor has it that Reedus might be eyeing this chaotic narrative for a live-action rendition… but is he ready to take on the wild energy of devils and chainsaws? Let’s dive into Reedus’ newfound obsession and see if he can channel his inner Denji! LEARN MORE

What is Norman Reedus up to? Recently, while speaking with GQ at Hong Kong Comic Con, The Walking Dead actor said he’s got anime on the mind. Reedus, who’s friends with Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind the Death Stranding video game franchise, says the beloved game maker recently turned him on to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, which Reedus could be thinking about adapting for live-action.

Reedus on discovering Chainsaw Man

“There’s Chainsaw Man, which Hideo Kojima told me about,” Reedus told GQ. “He said it was his favorite and I went around Tokyo looking for the comic book because I have a production company. I was looking for cool things to make.” Adding, “I got a lot of street cred for knowing Chainsaw Man. And I just recently was in Japan and I saw it on the airplane for the first time, so I thought that was a pretty cool one.” Heh. Is anyone else getting Chris Pratt talking about Super Mario vibes from this quote?

Reedus wants Reze’s bomb powers

While speaking with Reeus, GQ asked if he could inherit one anime power; what would it be? Reedus replied, “In Chainsaw Man, there was one character — I want to say it was called like, ‘Love Bomb,’ or ‘Bomb Girl,’ or something like that — and she was probably the coolest one there. So I’d be able to just blow things up with my mind. I’m very destructive.” Haha! Again, Chris Pratt vibes. Oh, Norman, you’re adorable. He was obviously referring to Denji’s deadly love interest from the Reze Arc movie (read our review here), the titular Bomb Devil Hybrid herself. And he’s right: Reze is an outstanding character with the ability to manifest explosions with almost no effort. She makes the Reze Arc film infinitely better simply by being there, and a live-action adaptation of her character could be fun, though I hardly think it’s necessary.

Not every anime needs a live-action adaptation

There’s a part of me that wishes they’d leave Chainsaw Man alone, though a live-action adaptation of the balls-to-the-wall series is inevitable. In Chainsaw Man, a down-on-his-luck thug named Denji becomes part of a group of Devil Hunters after a deal with a local crime boss goes south. Chainsaw Man is one of my favorite anime series of all time, and I’m thrilled to hear that Reedus enjoyed his time with the new film. As to whether he’ll make a live-action adaptation with his production company, that remains to be seen.
