Former reality star Spencer Pratt has received mixed reactions since announcing his run for mayor in L.A., and as the June 2 primary nominating election nears, more people are speaking out. Recently, two comedians, Drew Carey and Chelsea Handler, made their stance known and bluntly shared their thoughts about the aspiring mayor.
Pratt has responded with a post of his own, pointing out that his two detractors were mentioned in the Epstein Files.
On May 25, Spencer Pratt took to X to post his response to Drew Carey and Chelsea Handler, who have separately spoken out against his run for mayor. “Isn’t it weird how the two comedians histrionically lashing out against me are both in the ‘Epstein Files’? What are the odds?” Pratt captioned his post.
He also attached two files for reference. The first was a screenshot of an email from the Epstein Files with Carey’s name highlighted. The second was a clip of comedian Shane Gilis at “The Roast of Kevin Hart” saying, “Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein’s house in 2010… You look it up there’s articles. It wasn’t like a big party, there’s seven people there.”
While many showed their support for Pratt, some questioned why he needed to bring the Epstein Files into his campaign. One argued that many comedians were mentioned in the notorious files, simply because Epstein “had tons of showtimes sent to his email.”
Another user pointed out that one of Pratt’s donors, director Brett Ratner, was also in the Epstein Files and even had photos with Epstein. “Why should we trust you when your donors chilled with the degenerate Epstein?” the user wrote.
“Bro they aren’t in the files for anything other than being comedians, if you actually stopped propaganda for a second… I would vote for you if you just treated comedians as comedians… this is weird and sus,” another added.
One Pratt supporter thought his response to his critics was bad for optics. “Please don’t go down this route. LA needs you to win,” they advised.
On May 22, Carey spoke out against Pratt on Threads, calling “The Hills” alum a “serial scammer without a soul or moral compass,” as reported by The Blast. The comedian ended the post by saying, “F-ck this guy already.”
The email Pratt posted regarding the Epstein Files showed a message from actor and comedian Jeff Davis to Ghislaine Maxwell dated 2002, in which the former wrote, in part, “i was having dinner tonight with drew carey and the guys from ‘whose line is it anyway?’ and we were talking about our encounter with you.”
Despite being mentioned, no allegations of wrongdoing against Carey have emerged in relation to the Epstein Files.
On May 15, Handler posted an Instagram video in which she told her followers that Pratt, “a straight, white male former reality star that has no previous experience in government,” isn’t the right candidate.
Handler has previously addressed the 2010 dinner with Epstein on Rob Lowe’s podcast. While she admitted to attending dinner with Epstein, she claimed she didn’t know him and was only invited by Katie Couric. The small list of attendees included Prince Andrew, Peggy Siegel, Woody Allen and his wife Soon Yi, and Charlie Rose.
“We had dinner and it was so awkward and so weird,” Handler said, adding that she left soon after, and that was the only time she saw Epstein.
One comedian who has Pratt’s back is Joe Rogan. In mid-April, the mayoral candidate appeared on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast to discuss his plans for Los Angeles and share his political platform.
The two talked about the mismanagement of the Los Angeles fire, public safety, and their experiences living in L.A. Rogan strongly endorsed Pratt’s campaign. However, the comedian left L.A. in 2020 and has been living in Austin, Texas, since. Nevertheless, he showed his support to Pratt, saying, “Listen, man, I’m voting for you. I can’t vote for you, but I’m rooting for you. I mean, if I lived in Los Angeles, no question whatsoever, I would vote for you.”
