Singer Akon has said “polyamory is natural behaviour for men” as he spoke about having multiple partners.
Known for hits such as Locked Up and 2005’s single Lonely, the musician opened up on Paul C Brunson’s podcast We Need To Talk.
The 53-year-old singer didn’t say exactly how many partners he has, only telling Brunson: “I’ll just leave that to your imagination.”

But he did give more details about a few ‘rules’ that are followed including that the first wife is the ‘Queen’.
He said: “That one is the reason you even got one, two or three. She’s the Queen. Nobody violates wife No. 1. The moment they violate, (they are) out the door. She comes first, period.”
He added: “She is the one that is actually sacrificing in the end. With new people a part of your family, there’s going to be new attitudes, new mindsets, new behaviours… and (the first wife has) to deal with that.”
He clarified that only he can have multiple partners, and also said he has nine children in total – seven boys and two girls.
Communication is something he stressed as being central.
He explained: “You got to be mature enough to know that if this is the situation that I’m going to park in, I have to communicate.
“This I like, this I don’t like. This I’m for, this I’m not for, and this is what I’m willing to deal with, and this is what I’m not willing to deal with. And once y’all lay down those rules, just abide by them. It’s literally that simple.”
According to multiple US reports, wife Tomeka Thiam filed for divorce in September last year, having been married to him for nearly three decades.
Other celebrities who’ve spoken about non-monogamous relationships include RuPaul’s Drag Race host, RuPaul Charles, who told the New Yorker: “It’s just realistic. There’s no such thing as monogamy with men.”
