Serious looks were served at last night’s Met Gala, but if the vibes still felt a little bit off, then that might have something to do with the Bezos boycott of it all.
For some context, in November last year, Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, were named as lead sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala, with Vogue stating that this year’s exhibition had been “made possible” with the couple’s funding.
There have been a lot of conversations about how tech billionaires have been encroaching on art and culture, and, with that in mind, Jeff and Lauren were accused of “trying to buy their way into high society and politics” by sinking “their claws into the Met Gala via sponsorship.” The backlash was so intense that Anna Wintour spoke out in defense of the decision, specifically saying that Lauren is “going to be a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event.”
Then, in March, the uproar was reignited when the Bezoses were quietly named as honorary co-chairs of the event — and it’s safe to say people are still very mad about it. Leading up to this year’s “Bezos Met Gala,” there have been calls to boycott the event. So, without further ado, here’s a roundup of celebrities who’ve made their thoughts on the matter known — some more subtly than others.
1.
Supermodel and five-time Met Gala attendee Bella Hadid liked this anti-Bezos video shared on Instagram by comedian and social media personality Meredith Lynch, who said, “If you are a celebrity and you attend the Met Gala and you wear the ‘ICE out’ pin, please note that I will be dragging you in perpetuity.”
2.
Cara Delevingne liked that video, too. However, she didn’t fully boycott this year’s event, attending as a celebrity correspondent for Vogue’s red carpet livestream. I did not see her sporting an ‘ICE out’ pin, though.
3.
Taraji P. Henson, who has been to the Met Gala three times, also commented on Meredith’s video, writing: “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!”
4.
Collaborating with two anti-Bezos IG accounts, @everyonehateselon_ and @amazoncause, Mark Ruffalo platformed a video of a 72-year-old Amazon worker named Mary, delivering an impassioned message to the company’s billionaire founder. “Shame on you, Jeff Bezos,” she said, calling out the “dystopian” culture. “The people that need to be celebrated at the Met Gala are the workers. People like me. We deserve that celebration. We deserve so much more than we’re getting…Enjoy your damn gala.”
5.
This video was liked by Olivia Rodrigo, who has attended the Met Gala three times before.
6.
Model Bryana Holly liked the video, too. Her husband, Nicholas Hoult, was in attendance at the 2026 Met Gala, but she didn’t go with him.
7.
The @everyonehateselon_ IG page also shared a series of posts supporting the anti-Bezos activists who claimed to have hidden bottles of fake urine around the Met museum, drawing attention to past allegations that Amazon workers were forced to urinate in bottles to meet productivity demands. Two of these posts were liked by Apple Martin, the 21-year-old daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.
8.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani broke tradition this year by skipping the Met Gala, becoming the first NYC mayor since 2002 to do so. Though Mayor Mamdani praised the Met as “an incredible museum,” he said he wouldn’t attend the prestigious red-carpet event in order to focus on “affordability and making the most expensive city in the United States affordable.” To be clear, this isn’t a direct Bezos boycott, but given what Mayor Mamdani believes in, it’s not hard to guess where he stands on the matter.
9.
Finally, speaking of people who want to tax the rich, US Senator Elizabeth Warren posted on X: “If Jeff Bezos can drop $10 million to sponsor the Met Gala, he can afford to pay his fair share in taxes.”
So, there you have it. A number of notable Met Gala faves were missing from this year’s carpet, leaving me to wonder whether there might be more Bezos boycotts than we realize…
