Amidst the hilarious and thrilling whirlwind of content available on Netflix, a unique collaboration is brewing that pairs the visionary direction of McG—known for films like The Babysitter and Terminator Salvation—with the comedic prowess of Kevin Hart from hits like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This untitled project promises to be a wild ride filled with laughter and action, reminding us that sometimes the stars align for unexpected duos. Could this cosmic pairing lead to comedy gold? As the universe spins, it seems like the perfect time for rival spies to clash in a Lamaze class! To find out more about this intriguing endeavor, LEARN MORE.
While there’s no shortage of action and comedy on Netflix, only one new project brings together McG (The Babysitter, Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) and Kevin Hart (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Central Intelligence, Get Hard). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo is teaming up with an impressive list of backers for an untitled film that reunites McG with his action roots.
McG directs the untitled action comedy with Kevin Hart in the lead role. Coming aboard the project to produce are Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Emily Morris for 21 Laps, the same team behind Netflix’s Stranger Things series. Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort is also getting in on the action, after teaming with 21 Laps for Free Guy, The Adam Project, and Deadpool & Wolverine. In addition to his starring role, Hart is producing via his Hartbeat banner, alongside Luke Kelly-Clyne and Dryan Smiley.
THR says the developing action comedy focuses on “two rival spies who cross paths in a Lamaze class as their wives become fast friends. With their double lives colliding in unexpectedly hilarious and dangerous ways, the two men are forced to reluctantly become confidantes and partners on the road to fatherhood.”
The Lost City scribes, Adam and Aaron Nee, will write the screenplay alongside Jonathan Tropper, based on a story by Sean Lewis. Anyone following either McG or Hart knows they both have strong ties to Netflix, with Hart starring in multiple films and stand-up comedy specials at the streamer. At the same time, the platform hosts McG’s last five films, including The Babysitter (my favorite), Rim of the World, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Family Switch, and Uglies. McG’s latest directorial effort is Way of the Warrior Kid, an action-comedy about a self-doubting kid who gets bullied and learns to find his inner warrior with the help of his uncle, an elite Navy SEAL who uses his training to guide the youth over the summer. The project stars Chris Pratt, Linda Cardellini, and Jude Hill.
Meanwhile, Kevin Hart recently wrapped production on the next film in the Jumanji franchise, Jumanji: Open World. The final installment of the film series reunites Hart with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan for another riotous adventure through a video game come to life.
