A San Jose teen has been charged with murder in the death of his 2-year-old cousin, Jaxon Juarez. Prosecutors say the 17-year-old foster brother sexually assaulted and strangled the toddler with a hair tie in the home they shared. Jaxon was found unresponsive with “several suspicious traumatic injuries” on Easter Sunday and died days later. The suspect faces nine felony charges, including child assault causing death and assault with a hair tie. The DA is seeking to try him as an adult and is investigating the county’s foster care system, as this is the third child under their care to be murdered in recent years.
