The actress, best known for starring on HBO’s award-winning “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” may not partake in an upcoming series with her former castmates. Sources revealed the reunion may exclude the media personality due to her political ties.

Cheryl Hines famously dropped out of the Democratic Party to support her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign. He ran as an Independent candidate before switching sides to join Donald Trump’s team, eventually becoming the administration’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Former president and first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, are set to release a comedy series on HBO in honor of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The famous couple will reportedly produce the program through their production company, Higher Ground.

The series is a joint project between Hines’ former on-screen husband, Larry David, and the Obamas. The show promises to feature “Curb Your Enthusiasm” cast members and other stars, with the comedy’s showrunner, Jeff Schaffer, co-writing and directing episodes.

The project also marks David’s return to TV after the series’ 12th and final season. However, sources told The Daily Mail he and the Obamas aren’t interested in bringing Hines on board.

“The Obamas are adamant that anyone politically connected to Trump – who they despise – should not have a role in any of their lucrative media projects,” an insider shared.

“That clearly would include Cheryl. Worse for her in the Obamas’ eyes – and Larry’s, too,” they added. The insider explained that David could use his power as executive producer to bring Hines on board, but he was unlikely to do that given her affiliation with Trump.

Sources claimed that David’s working relationship with Hines had “chilled if not completely faded” since she and her husband left the Democratic Party. One source noted it would be challenging for him to work with Hines as he disliked Trump, plus his ex-wife, Laurie David, wasn’t a fan of the actress.

The comedian’s former spouse inspired Hines’s character on the HBO series and did not have a problem with the actress until she became a MAGA supporter. Laurie bashed her earlier this year after Kennedy Jr. joined Trump’s administration.

She described Hines “as the dutiful, adoring wife setting women back decades.” The actress found the comment “odd,” stressing in an interview that she did not have a relationship with David’s ex-wife. Although she claimed she was still friends with David, recent reports begged to differ.

The comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” was created by David and aired from 2000 to 2024, with 12 seasons. The show revolved around the actor’s character, a fictional version of himself and his life as a semi-retired television writer and producer.

Hines starred as his on-screen wife, Cheryl, with actor Jeff Garlin playing his manager and best friend, Jeff Greene. Fellow comedian J.B. Smoove starred as David’s housemate Leon Black, with several celebrities like Wanda Sykes and NBA superstar Shaq making guest appearances.

The series was a hit among fans, receiving high critical acclaim, per Wikipedia. It was nominated for 55 Primetime Emmy Awards and won the 2002 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Hines stayed for all 12 seasons, cementing herself as an integral part of the show.

Besides the comedy series, Hines was known for her roles in several movies like “A Bad Mom’s Christmas,” “RV,” and “Waitress.” Outside acting, she was known for directing the feature film “Serious Moonlight” and the TV series “Campus Ladies.”

Hines’ acting career began after graduating from UCF with a degree in Radio and Television production. She worked at Universal Studios when it first opened in 1990, recalling how amazing the gig was in an interview.

“When I went to get my driver’s license, and they say ‘occupation,’ I got to write actress, and I was so proud of myself,” she said about her acting job at Universal, per News 6. Hines also created a name for herself through advocacy and became a political figure thanks to her husband.

Hines recently made waves for breaking her silence on her husband’s sexting scandal. The Blast covered the story, reporting that she addressed the matter roundaboutly during an interview. Kennedy Jr. sparked infidelity speculations last year when a journalist claimed they had an inappropriate relationship.

The accuser, Olivia Nuzzi, claimed the relationship wasn’t physical but through “personal” communications, in other words, sexting. However, Hines implied accusations like the journalist’s were not enough to ruin her longtime marriage to Kennedy Jr.

“We’re really good friends, and we trust each other,” Hines declared, noting her upcoming memoir would shed more light on her enduring bond with Kennedy Jr. She added that whatever they had been through was in the past and they would continue to love each other.
