Why Your Love Life and Destiny Might Just Be Moonlighting—New & Full Moon Secrets They Don’t Want You to Know!

Added on January 8, 2026 inASTROLOGY CARDS

Ever wonder if new moons and full moons are just about making wishes or if there’s actually some cosmic hustle behind the scenes? I’ve been eyeballing these lunar shindigs for decades, and truth be told, it’s not just about spotting squares or oppositions—it’s a whole vibe. New moons? Think of them as your celestial reset button, a chance to kickstart something fresh right where the moon shines bright in your chart. Full moons, on the other hand, aren’t just flashy show-offs lighting up the sky—they spotlight the whole axis of your life, flicking the switch to reveal what’s really cooking since that new moon kickoff. Oh, and let’s not underestimate the drama Mars or the generosity of Jupiter brings into this lunar party. So, before you blame that random burst of energy or sentimental rollercoaster on “just the moon,” remember: astrology’s got layers, and these lunar phases serve up their own kind of cosmic smack. “I’ve always been interested in assessing new moons/full moons/eclipses and how they interact with a natal or synastry chart. Is it as easy as looking for squares/oppositions vs trines/sextiles or is there more to it?”

I’ve been in astrology so long at this point, I tend to favor my own experience over what anyone what says of writes.  Generally speaking, a new moon is about a new beginning. This is an easy concept. The Lights are conjoined. You have the chance to get off on the right foot, in the area of life shown by the house where the new moon falls.  This idea, alone, is the most important thing to grasp.

Now the potency of a new moon and the overall flavor of it, is colored by the sign as well as the aspects to the sun and moon. Mars aspecting would be sharp and challenging. A Jupiter aspect would indicate abundance or openness and the life.

While I’m aware of how a new moon is aspecting my chart, I don’t pay a lot of attention to how the sun moon pair aspect my natal planets, unless it’s something dramatic or dangerous looking. The event is the sun and moon conjunction, itself. The new beginning.  Think about a baby being born. That’s the focus. That’s the main event.

With full moons, there are two houses involved; the focus is on the axis. I always say, the lights go up under the full moon. Look around!  How are you doing with your “new beginning” from two weeks prior?

Full moons are naturally tense.  There is no debate here, emergency rooms do fill up. My entire astrology writing career was launched when I offered commentary on a British Telephone study that found, full moons increased chattiness!  That said, I have been watching this stuff since I was eight years old.  While things do happen under full moons, the vast majority of significant events in my life and the lives of other, do not happen under full moons!

Also, full moons are not created equally! It’s possible, the lights go up and you like your situation, just fine. Here again, check how the full moon is aspected. Note what natal planets are affected, but don’t lose sight of the axis involved. That’s the main focus.

Bottom line, take the new and full moons, case by case, but the meaning of these events + the house(s) involved, is where the focus belongs.

I realize some people think my methods are simple; well I agree with them. I want astrology to smack! I don’t want a wall of vagueness where you can see what you want to see. The new and full moons, slap, by their nature. I can’t see diluting them into mushy porridge.
