Why Your Brain Is Playing Dirty Tricks on Those Charts (And How to Outsmart It Before You Make a Fool of Yourself)

Added on May 6, 2025 inASTROLOGY CARDS

Ever catch yourself zooming in on one tiny detail in a person’s astrology chart and missing the entire cosmic landscape? Yeah, me too—and honestly, it’s a classic human move. Our minds love playing favorites, cherry-picking what we want to see like a kid in a candy store, even if it’s a negative spin. Today, with Mercury nudging us through those hazy cognitive corners, it’s easy to fall into the trap of glorifying ourselves while lowballing someone else’s vibe—or flipping the script entirely. But here’s the kicker: this kind of bias is the sneaky asteroid belt that makes reading charts, especially others’, more of a minefield than a clear cosmic roadmap. So, before you label someone “doomed” because of that infamous aspect or brush off your own quirks as “not that bad,” maybe ask—are you seeing the full astral picture or just a little star or two that catches your eye? Spoiler alert: the zodiac doesn’t lie… but sometimes, our brain does. LEARN MORE.

cognitive biasIt’s human nature to focus on what we want to see, rather than scan the whole picture. This is true, even if our bias is negative.

You may want to look at your chart in a positive light and trash the other person… or you may do the opposite.  Throw the other person up, while denigrating yourself. Either way, you miss the boat. Or rather, you’re missing such a large portion of the boat, your read on things is sketchy at best.

This is probably one of the hardest things to overcome when trying to advance in astrology.  It’s really shows up, when you read charts for others.

For example, many astrologers will steer away from troublesome aspects in a person’s chart.
Others will choose a single aspect in a person’s chart and pronounced them, “doomed”, all because their lover of yesteryear had that aspect, and blah, blah, blah.

See? Bias!  It takes considerable experience and courage to really read the whole chart; yours or theirs.

Here’s a tip!  When you find yourself focused on another person’s chart, in a negative way, ask yourself if the same thing isn’t found in your own.  In most cases, you’ll realize you need to check yourself!

Is there something (positive or negative) you initially overlooked in your chart?
