Drake stans hoping to stage an “OVO Takeover” outside Kendrick Lamar’s Toronto concert on Thursday night (June 12) were reportedly met with a swift police response that shut down the gathering before it could take off.
The event, organized by local Drake supporters, was meant to be a peaceful show of hometown pride during Lamar’s Grand National Tour stop at Rogers Centre.
The plan included blasting Drake’s music, handing out free pizza and OVO hoodies, and celebrating Toronto’s Hip-Hop scene—no drama, no tension, just vibes.

But things didn’t go as planned.
“Unfortunately, we have to cancel the OVO Takeover,” organizers said in a statement shared on social media. “We genuinely just wanted to bring people together, have some fun, and create good vibes for the city.
“But unfortunately, some people decided to report us, falsely claiming we were planning to ‘start trouble’ or cause chaos. Because of those reports, police were already on high alert and were quick to shut down anything that even looked like a crowd forming – including us.”
The event began as a joke online, but quickly gained traction, sparking genuine interest from Drake’s base. Organizers expressed frustration but made it clear they weren’t giving up.
Meanwhile, the OVO Takeover wasn’t the only Drake-related plan shelved Thursday night.
A highly anticipated livestream between Kai Cenat and Drake, initially set for Wednesday (June 11), was first delayed to Thursday (June 12) to allow more time to review submissions for the “Somebody Loves Me” music video contest.
But just hours before the rescheduled stream, Cenat announced another postponement via Instagram Stories.
He told followers the team needed more time to finalize the video treatments and apologized for the delay.
The livestream was supposed to unveil 20 winners, each receiving $15,000 to create a segment of the music video for Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s track “Somebody Loves Me.”
No new date for the stream has been announced.
