A new Netflix mystery drama, which has been ‘made for Knives Out fans’, has been a massive hit already, landing 49,500,000 hours of viewing time already.
If the series was released in almost any other month it would be dominating the top of Netflix, but this month has largely been dominated by Adolescence.
The one-shot crime drama has dominated Netflix of late, setting records and looking on course to become one of Netflix’s most watched English-speaking shows of all time.
While Adolescence has been announced to play in schools around the country however, another series has quietly been racking up views, leaving fans begging for a season two.
The series in question is called The Residence and is a murder mystery whodunnit set in the White House.
The show stars Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba as well as Giancarlo Esposito, Molly Griggs, Ken Marino, Randall Park, Jason Lee, and Taran Killam.
The series focuses on the White House’s staff residence, after someone is found dead in the area dedicated towards the living spaces of those who work for America’s first family.
The Residence’s 49,500,000 hours makes up 6,400,000 views, placing it second worldwide on Netflix amongst English speaking shows and third overall on the streaming platform.
This is not, however, an example of a show that lives on hype alone and doesn’t have the critical chops to back it up as The Residence has received stellar reviews, alongside the fan calls for it to come back for a second season.

Sitting at an average rating of 7.9 on IMDb and 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, Lucy Mangan of The Guardian said in her four star review: “Although there is an ensemble vibe, it remains Aduba’s show, and rightfully so.
“She is a magnetic presence and The Residence takes full advantage of that.”
Sherin Nicole of RogerEbert.com said in their review of the show: “With its cozy and frenetic crime-solving duo of Aduba and Park, The Residence is a comedy of manners and murder that nails scintillating satire to the White House walls, compelling us to step inside.”

Fans on Twitter are not only calling for a second season of the show, but they’ve already figured out how they want it to happen.
Now, of course, a second murder happening in the White House may be a bit hard to believe, but that has been thought about.
One viewer posted on Twitter: “Hear me out: I need The Residence on Netflix to become a long running anthology series where Cordelia gets hired to solve investigations of murders in different countries’ Presidential Residencies.”
Others simply urged viewers, and in particular fans of Knives Out, to watch the show, with one viewer posting: “I need Knives Out/Glass Onion fans to watch The Residence because netflix is not promoting it enough as a FUN FUN FUN murder mystery.”
While Netflix have yet to greenlight a second season of the show, star Uzo Aduba has stated she would be up for it.
The Residence is available to watch on Netflix now.
