Tom Blyth is adding to his portfolio with the forthcoming release of the film Bull Run.
Vertical has acquired U.S. rights to the existential comedy from first-time feature director Alfredo Barrios Jr. and will release it in select theaters and via VOD on Nov. 14, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Chris Diamantopoulos (Silicon Valley) and Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire) also star.
Bull Run centers on Bobby Sanders (Blyth), a former pro hockey player who lands a job as a junior investment banker and attempts to find the meaning to life while navigating the world of high finance. An image that is exclusive to THR can be seen above, while the poster is below.
The cast includes Zach Villa (American Horror Story), Jordyn Denning (Pam & Tommy), Ashwin Gore (Shameless), Helena Mattson (Seven Psychopaths), Trevor Gretzky (Loudermilk), Troy Garity (Ballers), Sam Daly (The Office) and Alyshia Ochse (True Detective).
Barrios, who has worked on such television projects as Magnum P.I. and Shelter, helmed the movie from a script by Bill Keenan that adapts his own memoir, Discussion Materials: Tales of a Rookie Wall Street Investment Banker. Keenan produces the film alongside Doug Ellin, Karen Baldwin, Howard Baldwin, Andrew Sugerman and Bill Immerman.
Blyth is known for starring as Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and for his lead role on the series Billy the Kid. He can soon be seen in the Netflix rom-com People We Meet on Vacation, which adapts the Emily Henry novel.
“Wall Street gave me an existential crisis,” Keenan says in a statement. “Making Bull Run gave me free craft services and a producer credit. I should’ve led with the movie.”
Adds Barrios, “I couldn’t be more excited for audiences to check out our fun, funny and quirky movie. Tom Blyth and the rest of our wonderful cast are absolute revelations. If the audience has half as much fun with this movie as I had making it, then they’re in for a real treat.”
Vertical senior vp of acquisitions Tony Piantedosi says of the project: “Alfredo has crafted a film that is equal parts fun ride and ruthless critique, aided by his sharp script that Tom delivers through the fourth wall with a natural comic timing. We look forward to presenting the film to North American audiences.”
