Tina Brown Slams Meghan Markle's Business Ventures: "All Style, No Substance"

Added on April 22, 2025 inCelebrity News Cards

Here’s a thought for ya: ever notice how when Mercury goes retrograde, communication goes right down the drain? Now, apply that to the astrological drama queen—yes, I’m lookin’ at you, Libra—that’s been in everyone’s headline lately, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. In an era when we’re all supposed to be about mindfulness and minimalism, here she is, launching businesses like she’s losta in some kind of entrepreneurial supermarket sweep.

Tina Brown (yeah, who still listens to her? Apparently, we do), the old guard at Vanity Fair, has once again taken potshots at Meghan. This time, she accused our Duchess of this insatiable need for the spotlight, a condition so severe, one might think it’s written in her stars. “Desperate for attention” she says. Maybe during this retrograde, Meghan just got a tad bit carried away with her, er, “spontaneous business endeavors”? Or as Brown so eloquently pointed out, she’s “enormously shallow and unadvisable.”

Now, while I’m all for breaking bad habits, you gotta wonder—is it the age-old trait of being a Libra, or just Megh enjoying her newfound freedom of expression? Either way, Tina’s got it out for her, slamming Meghan and acting like she’s the Virgo of the journalism world, constantly needing to correct everyone.

But let’s Astro away from the criticism for a second. Despite the naysayers, Meghan’s cooking like Croesus with these numerous ventures—from her sleek, attractively jam products to a Netflix show so fluffy, it could float you into space. Yet, even with all this hustle, some folks (Tina) claim she’s spinning her wheels, “never really following through.” But maybe, just maybe, this is Meghan’s way of finding herself a new orbit, outside the royal firmament.

Now, here’s the kicker—amidst all this noise, she sends a box of gourmet goodies to King Charles. A pragmatic move? An olive branch? Or perhaps, Meghan’s just recognizing the astrological significance of Saturn, the disciplinarian, in her chart, nudging her to make amends and maybe, just maybe, work on any familial rift.

Who knows if it’ll work out? But one thing’s clear, Meghan Markle’s not afraid to step out of her comfort zone, even if it means catching flak from celebrities past their prime. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what we’re all encouraged to do—embrace our eccentricities and follow through on our passions, astrological retrogades be damned?

After previously criticizing Meghan following the launch of her Netflix cooking show, Tina Brown has once again ripped into the former actress.

This time, the 71-year-old slammed the mother of two as “desperate for attention” for launching multiple businesses within a short period.

“Her problem is just that she is so ADD. She just never stops making announcements and never really follows through,” the former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief said on the Mixed Signals for Semafor Media podcast last Friday, per the Daily Mail.

Brown went on to suggest Meghan is “devoid of self-confidence” as a further explanation for the duchess’ multiple new business ventures.

“She’s always trying to be a sort of instant Beyoncé or instant Michelle Obama without the background that has built those people – you know, those very, very strong structures on which they stand. So that’s really been her problem,” the 71-year-old added about the “Suits” star.

Tina Brown Called The Duchess ‘Enormously Shallow’ And ‘Unadvisable’

Since Brown’s previous criticism of Meghan, the former actress has launched her As Ever brand and returned to the world of podcasting with the debut of “Confessions of a Female Founder.”

While items from the brand sold out quickly, the podcast didn’t enjoy the same success as her earlier series, “Archetypes.”

Taking aim at these developments, Brown suggested that Meghan would be far more fulfilled if she focused on one project at a time.

“If she’d simply succeeded at one thing, and then done another thing, she’d be in a much, much better place,” the Princess Diana biographer remarked. “But she’s enormously shallow in her approach to the work she does.”

Brown also pointed out that she doesn’t expect Meghan would change her ways, claiming the mother of two acts like she is an island.

“What I hear from everyone is that she’s unadvisable, and that is the issue,” Brown added. “She’s worn out her advisory circle, who just feel like, well, what’s the point? She’s not going to do it.”

In her previous criticism of Meghan over her cooking show, “With Love, Meghan,” Brown claimed that the show is proof that the former actress has an “unerring instinct for getting it wrong.”

According to the journalist, Meghan has also “never figured out a convincing persona” and would have had more success creating a show about “what a spectacular failure the past five years [of her life] have been.”

At the time, Brown also took a dig at Meghan’s approach to promoting her lifestyle brand, which was previously named American Riviera Orchard but was changed due to it being too restrictive.

“Who announces a new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, and hounds celebrity friends to talk up her strawberry jam on social media without doing due diligence on the availability of the trademark?” Brown questioned mockingly.

Brown isn’t the only one who has criticized Meghan’s new business ventures.

The Times of London’s columnist James Marriott slammed the podcast as “Meghan’s vapid lessons in self-love,” while a writer for the Guardian noted that it was “stomach-turning” and “sycophantic.”

Further slamming the new project was Telegraph’s TV critic Chris Bennion. He claimed it was an “inane stream of mindless aphorisms” with “no confessions or secrets.”

Similar words were used to describe Meghan’s cooking show, which debuted on Netflix early last month.

An outlet reviewed it as “a Montecito ego trip not worth taking,” while another slammed it as “a ghastly artifact of a particular cultural era that recently met its apocalypse,” per the Daily Mail.

The show was also called an “exercise in narcissism, filled with extravagant brunches, celebrity pals, and business plugs.”

Despite being hit by a flood of negative reviews, it’s been revealed that Meghan sent a batch of As Ever products to King Charles, seemingly extending an olive branch to the British monarch.

According to U.K. royal correspondent Neil Sean, who spoke to Fox News Digital, a trusted insider revealed a “sample box of delights from As Ever has been delivered to Clarence House,” Charles’ official London residence.

The package reportedly included a mix of “jams, honey, crêpe mix, and various assortments,” along with a handwritten note from the Duchess of Sussex herself.

The gesture is said to reflect Meghan’s deep respect for her father-in-law, and experts believe this act could be Meghan’s way of “building bridges with the royal family” since stepping back from royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020.
