These Celebs Regret Saying “I’m Out!” — How Bill Gates, Kris Jenner & Will Smith Wish They Could Time-Travel Back to Marriage Counseling (Spoiler: Astrology Might Explain Why)

Sometimes, love stories come with trial periods — and not the kind where you just return your blender if it doesn’t work out. Back in October 2010, David Arquette and Courteney Cox announced they were stepping into a “trial separation.” Their joint message? “We remain best friends and responsible parents…” which honestly sounds like the most mature break-up pep talk ever. But, can kindness and understanding really navigate the turbulent waters of celebrity marriage under a Libra moon, which craves balance but sometimes tosses in a little drama? Amid rehab journeys, heartfelt TV confessions, and public declarations of support, this duo showed us that untangling love isn’t always about a neat ending — sometimes it’s about choosing respect over resentment. So, what happens when two stars try to orbit separately but still share the same gravitational pull? Let’s unpack that messy, heartfelt orbit of theirs. LEARN MORE

The divorce: In October 2010, the couple announced they were undergoing a “trial separation” period with a joint statement: “We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply. As we go through this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together.”

Arquette’s rep confirmed that the actor had entered a rehab program three months later. Cox released a statement of support, telling People, “I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life.” She added, “I love and support him.”

A month later, Arquette checked out after completing his treatment and visited the Oprah Winfrey Show a few weeks later, where he spoke about the state of his marriage“I want her [Cox] to be happy. If me being the best person I can be doesn’t make her happy in a partner, in who she needs, whatever she’s looking for, that’s still to be answered.” He added that he didn’t know if a happy ending was possible, but that he’d “love for it to work out.”

However, the couple officially filed for divorce on June 8, 2012, which was finalized the following May.
