The 29-year-old “Wonka” star has been applauded for his courtside presence and hometown pride, while Taylor Swift has repeatedly been criticized for showing up to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The backlash Swift received throughout the NFL season, from social media trolling to boos at Super Bowl LVIII, has many questioning why sports fans and media alike are embracing Chalamet, while Swift’s appearances sparked outrage.

TikToker @DeTurner weighed in with a video that’s been viewed over 13,000 times, questioning the public’s vastly different responses.

“Yes, they’re different situations,” she began. “Timothée is a longtime Knicks fan, and Taylor is there for her boyfriend. But let’s be honest. The amount of screen time he’s getting lately has been a lot, and no one seems to mind.”

She added, “I’m just wondering. Where is this same energy when Taylor shows up at games?”

The clip sparked a wave of responses, with many Swift fans agreeing that the criticism aimed at the pop star has felt deeply unfair.

“Timothée Chalamet showing up for all the Knicks playoff games is genuinely sick and I love all that content,” one X user posted. “But it’s kinda sad to compare the public’s reaction to that vs. Taylor Swift attending her boyfriend’s games.”

Some even labeled it flat-out misogyny.

“Yeah, it’s the NFL fans being weird and more toxic. NBA Fans don’t care,” one TikToker said. “Never got the hate for t-swift, she seems to be enjoying the sport and supporting her bf, so good on her.”

Another chimed in, “The only real difference is that men hate women.”

Others tried to justify the contrasting reactions, suggesting Chalamet’s long-standing loyalty to the Knicks plays a part.

“He’s not there because of who he’s dating,” one TikTok commenter argued. “Plus, he’s in the crowd with fans, not in a private box, and they’re not cutting to him every five seconds.”

“NBA always show the people on the front row,” another said. “NFL goes out their way to show Taylor while she’s in a suite.”

“One is a diehard fan, the other is dating a player,” another said. “There’s video of him celebrating with Knicks fans in NY. So it’s his genuine love of the team and he isn’t constantly shown.”

Some went as far as dragging politics into the conversation.

“Taylor Swift was an outspoken Trump critic, during an election season, dating a man who advertised the Covid vaccine, who plays for the team that was cool to hate,” one TikToker said. “MAGA hates her. Chalamet isn’t really political.”

Swift famously endorsed Kamala Harris during the last presidential election, to which Donald Trump responded with a hateful response. Ever since, MAGA has stood behind Trump, and Swift seemed to have lost thousands of followers on social media because of it. Though, in retrospect, it doesn’t seem to make that big of an impact, given the number of followers she had to begin with.

Still, Swift’s supporters weren’t convinced.

Many pointed out that both stars get plenty of camera time and generate just as much online buzz, yet only one seems to be a lightning rod for backlash.

“Why is it a problem when Taylor Swift is at a game?” one fan asked. “She’s not doing anything wrong. She’s just being visible in a space that some people still don’t want women to be in.”

Others lightheartedly dubbed Chalamet “the NBA’s version of Taylor Swift,” noting his consistent presence throughout the Eastern Conference Finals.

The actor, who is currently dating Kylie Jenner, has been a courtside regular, celebrating alongside die-hard fans.
