Ever had one of those moments where you suddenly look at your astrological chart and think, “Whoa, that explains everything!”? Well, that happened to me recently — right after diving headfirst into writing what turned out to be a marathon tale, the infamous Shack Man story. Talk about pushing through resistance while riding the cosmic wave! It’s like Mars and Mercury in Libra teamed up behind the bar of life, turning my old bartending gig into the ultimate love-and-relationship lab. Who knew that tending bar at fifteen—surrounded by characters like the unforgettable “Obese Pisces”—would actually school me on human connection far beyond the usual horoscope fluff?
Now, with Capricorn rising giving me that Venus-Saturn handshake and Jupiter and Saturn eyeballing my 7th house, it all suddenly clicked: this isn’t just about chart symbols on paper; it’s about stepping into authority, commitment, and forgiveness… in real life. So here I am, ready to spill the cosmic tea on what it really means to relate, forgive, and actually grow bonds, even when the universe throws in a Uranian curveball or two. Curious when you last dusted off your chart and stirred up some fresh insights? Maybe it’s time to pull up a stool at your own cosmic Green Dolphin Bar and take a good look.
I mentioned in my newsletter, I had two epiphanies about my chart this week. I feel these things were revealed to me through the effort I’ve made in the last weeks, beginning with when I committed to write the Shack Man story. That was a LONG story! It was work. But as I stated, along the way, I felt I was supposed to push against resistance and have faith, so of course I complied. I’m getting paid back for this now.
This new understanding is part of that. If you grasp the high value I put on seeing things and understanding things, then you know how happy I am right now. The two insights are separate but related. One led to the other, rapidly.
First, I have always had strong interest in relationships (Mercury in Libra). I hunt love (Mars in Libra). Obviously, I was watching the interactions in my home, growing up, but when I started tending bar – hoo boy! I got my first bartending job when I was fifteen years old. It worked at the most famous, notorious college bar in my city. You can imagine what when on in there.
I can vividly remember my first night on the job. I’d told the owner I could tend bar and make him a lot of money — ha ha ha – but he gave me the job and I started on a Friday night, with a great old dude, I called, “Obese Pisces”, when I wrote about him.
Obese Pisces weighed at least 400 pounds, but this dude was magical! He must have fairy dusted me, because I got back there and easily pulled it off. Oh my God, I loved it! I stepped on those backboards and the view of the people in the bar was magnificent.
Obese Pisces took to me, immediately and started clueing me into this or that about the regulars, within minutes. He was funny as hell! I have written his voice, but he’s not at all PC, so you know how that goes.
My point is, I was behind a bar for all of five minutes, before it turned into my observation deck. We would watch the men and women try and fail or succeed, to pick each other up. We bet quarters on this! Of course I had no scope or earthly idea why I was in this situation, but I know why now. It was my education (Mars Mercury in Libra in the 9th).
I went on to tend bar for six years. I never stopped watching. I never stopped learning. When I quit tending bar, and got serious about astrology, I went back to the petri dish (the bar), to drink my, OJ and soda and apply astrology. I studied some more!
So now I write a lot about relating. I work with people with relationship problems all the time, but this, Shack Man deal, was something else. I had to plod through reality, as opposed to taking certain points of the story and crafting a true story, with most items on the cutting room floor. It was serious.
I’ve been saying I want to provide an example of relating to others, simply because what’s modeled and promoted these days…well if you listen to it, you’re going to get nowhere. I’m obviously a woman who loves men. This helps a lot, if you want to get one interested in you! I recall teaching my daughter, at six years old, to always determine how a man felt about her sex, before getting involved. Many men are taught, “women aren’t worth it”. If you meet one of them, GTFO!
In the story, I realized, my love was real, my commitment was real, I acted with integrity and such. I was a viable partner. This made me feel good, as I was much younger. I’ve been with my husband near twenty years now (and I’m crazy, with Uranus in my 7th), so yeah. I can actually do this.
I also hit the zodiac attachment styles. What a miracle, a person like me, with my background has learned to form a “secure bond”. When I realized this, I thought, I better teach this! I am supposed to teach this!
Well, yeah. The 9th house is education and I have an interest but this is when it hit me. I’m a Capricorn rising which creates a Venus Saturn exchange, but I also have Jupiter and Saturn aspecting my 7th house. That’s a teacher/preacher signature. It’s Capricorn, people. Authority!
I realized this is an even stronger signature than my 9th house. The ability to commit is there (Saturn). The ability to forgive is there (Jupiter). The belief a person should do right by others. It’s there. Fairness. Judgement. Integrity. Honesty. Balance. It’s all there.
This tells me I need to step into these shoes, which I will do, one way or the other. But here’s the cool part…
When I degraded my 9th house conjunction in Libra, a very different meaning for that conjunction emerged with alacrity. FREAKY! I have to cover that in another post.
