Police have issued an update following the shooting and arrest of Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, outside of the couple’s LA home on Wednesday (9 April).

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has also accused the 51-year-old, also known as Jillian Lauren, of allegedly firing her gun at them.

Shriner was apprehended in the Eagle Rock neighbourhood of LA when police were responding to calls of an unrelated hit-and-run.

On a nearby motorway, the three suspects left their vehicle and ran into a residential street.

The LAPD said that when one of the suspects was seen in the back garden of a home, they saw Shriner allegedly armed with a handgun in a neighbouring yard.

Although the LAPD said Shriner wasn’t involved in the hit-and-run, they did confirm that she was shot and ran into her home.

Police said ‘evidence such as a shell casing and video footage’ showed Shriner allegedly ignoring the force’s commands and firing her weapon at them.

Jennifer Forkish, LAPD Director of Communications, told NBC News that Shriner ‘repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers’.

“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times,” the police department said. “However, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers.”

After being shot in the shoulder, Shriner allegedly went back into the house for thirty minutes before returning with another woman, who is reported to be a babysitter.

KTLA’s helicopters captured footage of Shriner and the woman walking down her drive, with the author holding her hands in the air to surrender.

The video then shows Shriner face down on the floor before being cuffed by police.

She was afterwards taken into custody and hospitalised for her gunshot wound, where she was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

KTLA also said that both she and the babysitter were released from custody, with Shriner being posted on a $1 million bond Wednesday (9 April) night. Her next court hearing is set for 30 April.

Police added that no officers were injured in the incident.

As for the hit-and-run, police located and arrested one of the three suspects, while the other two are still at large.

According to CBS, the suspect is expected to be charged with felony hit and run once he is released from hospital after receiving an undisclosed injury.

Shriner’s husband Scott was asked by the New York Post about his wife’s condition, to which the 59-year-old replied: “She’s alright, thank you for asking,” as he was walking their four dogs outside of the property.

“See you at Coachella,” he added.

The LA rock band, who have hits such as ‘Buddy Holly’, ‘The Sweater Song’ and ‘Say It Ain’t So’, are scheduled to appear in the Mojave tent on 12 April at 3.10pm.
