Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. the Rock, has spoken at length about the complicated relationship he had with his father, Rocky Johnson.
The superstar actor may be the most well-known person in his family, becoming a huge WWE superstar set to star in The Smashing Machine, but his father, also a wrestler, was part of a tag-team that became the first two black men to ever win a title in the WWF, the WWE’s predecessor.
Though a trailblazer in the sport, Rocky Johnson himself had a dark past.
The Rock has recently created a show about his life, Young Rock, but his father’s dark past has been understandably omitted – so here it is.
The most serious and disturbing moment of Rocky Johnson’s life that was left out of his portrayal in the show is his arrest on charges of raping a 19-year-old in 1987.
Johnson claimed, however, that this was a false accusation and that he had been ‘set up’ by his rivals.
The charge is reported to have ultimately led to him being ‘blacklisted’ from wrestling.

Brian Last, a Wrestling Insider and podcaster, alluded on the 605 podcast that Rocky Johnson had a ‘dark’ past. This led to a fan on Twitter asking him about this, with Last replying: “Rocky Johnson was busted for rape in 1987. He got in trouble for, amongst other things, asking a [12] year old girl to play strip poker in 2000.
“Was sent away from OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) due to his behaviour towards women, ripped countless people off, screwed over Scott Teal. I could go on.”
The rumour that he asked a 12-year-old girl to play strip poker originates from stories by local South Florida newspaper The Sun Sentinel.
The local news outlet reported that Johnson was being investigated for allegations of sexual misconduct while working at a local community centre.
In addition to this, he was also accused of ‘unwanted groping’ towards female employees and ‘illicit discussions of sexual anatomy in front of children’.
While he was not formally prosecuted for this investigation, the local State Attorney’s office said that they had ‘sufficient evidence’ the event took place, but that the women involved feared the publicity a case would bring.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has spoken about how he held a complicated relationship with his father. Johnson was well-known for being a womanizer, leading The Rock to have several half-siblings.
The Rock took to his Instagram two days ago, posting an AI video of his deceased father waving at the camera. In the caption, he described how ‘waving unresolved conflict with loved ones who then suddenly pass away, can be brutal’.
This referenced something Johnson has spoken about publicly; how the pair had a heated argument the Christmas prior to his father’s death, leaving the two not on speaking terms.
Following the death of Rocky Johnson, Dwayne shared a tribute video of the wrestler, saying: “My dad was a strong, tough guy, and hardened by all the different kind of beatings life gave him, but I know he ALWAYS appreciated (and smiled!) receiving ‘his flowers’ for all the challenges he overcame and road he paved for all of us of colour, and all of us of ANY colour.
“I get emotional in moments like this because it’s the great reminder to always be as present as possible with your loved ones, because we just never know what’s around the corner and when, just like that — they’re gone.
“My old man wasn’t a big ‘I love you’ guy, but he would always say three things to me as a kid that always stuck with me.
“A day without pain, is like a day without sunshine. Respect is given when it’s earned, so go out and earn it. The show must go on.”
