So, here’s a thought — with Mercury still doing its usual dance in retrograde, can anyone really trust a con man navigating Macao’s dicey gambling tables? Edward Berger’s new Netflix feature Ballad of a Small Player, starring none other than Colin Farrell, throws us right into that swirl as it premieres at this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival. Oh, and speaking of sagas, Juliette Binoche flips the director’s chair for her debut with In-I In Motion, offering a reflective peek at a dance-theater hybrid she co-created. It’s like the cosmos lined up stars and stories alike for this September fest—from Rami Malek’s gripping psychological deep dive in Nuremberg, to Junko Tabei’s Everest conquest in Climbing for Life. Whether you’re drawn to high stakes, history’s shadows, or the sheer poetry of human motion, this lineup’s got that rare vibe—just like a Leo moon igniting creative flames on a cool autumn night. Curious to see how the stars and the silver screen collide this year?

LEARN MORE

Edward Berger‘s Colin Farrell-starring Ballad of a Small Player and Juliette Binoche‘s directorial debut are among the latest additions to the San Sebastian Film Festival line-up.

The Spanish film fest, running Sep. 19-27, has on Tuesday confirmed that Berger’s Netflix film, also starring Tilda Swinton and Fala Chen, will premiere out of competition following his Conclave success at last year’s edition. The movie is an adaptation of Lawrence Osborne’s novel following an English con man on Macao’s gambling scene.

In the special screenings section, French actress Binoche will present her directorial debut called In-I In Motion. The film is a non-fiction work looking back at the experience of In-I, the hybrid dance and theater show produced by Binoche in 2007 with dancer and choreographer Akram Khan.
