Rush Plots ‘Fifty Something’ Comeback Tour—But Who’s Bold Enough to Sit in Neil Peart’s Throne?

Ever get the sense that, in true Gemini fashion, the universe is demanding a little bit of everything—all at once? Mercury’s flirting with retrograde and, honestly, even your playlists are probably confused. It’s almost like the cosmos decided now was the exact moment to throw a massive, cosmic reunion… and who’s leading the charge? None other than Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush, of course ! Picture this: after a full decade in musical hibernation, they’re dusting off their basses and guitars, band tees fitting maybe a little tighter than memory suggests, and stepping back under the stage lights to mark Rush’s wild, winding, five-decade odyssey . Why now? Maybe Saturn’s got opinions—or the gods of prog rock just really want a show. Either way, with the “Fifty Something” tour set to fire up in Los Angeles and a fresh face behind the drums, there’s an electricity in the air that even the most skeptical Capricorn couldn’t ignore . If the stars are trending “legendary comeback” and your spirit animal is feeling nostalgic (plus a touch skeptical), you’re right where you need to be. LEARN MORE.

Rush‘s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson will hit the road next year to mark the band’s 50th anniversary and honor the legacy of late drummer Neil Peart, the duo announced on Monday.

The tour, which they’re calling the Fifty Something tour, marks the first time Lee and Lifeson will perform as Rush in over a decade, with their last show together coming a decade ago at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles back in 2015, when Peart was still alive. The Forum will serve as the first stop for Fifty Something, with the tour beginning in Inglewood with shows on June 7 and June 9 of 2026.

Other than the Los Angeles opening dates in June, Rush will also play in Mexico City, Fort Worth, Chicago, New York, and Toronto before wrapping in Cleveland at the Rocket Arena on September 17. Pre-sale begins October 9 at 11:59 p.m., and the general on-sale will begin October 17 at 12 p.m. local time.

“It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of Rush alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil. A lifetime’s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage,” Lee said in a statement Monday. “And so, after all that has gone down since that last show, Alex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we fucking miss it, and that it’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of Rush music. So in 2026 my BFF Lerxst (aka Alex Lifeson) and I are going to hit the road once again to pay tribute to our past and to Neil by performing a vast selection of Rush songs in a handful of cities. No small task, because as we all know Neil was irreplaceable.”

Peart is regarded as one of the greatest drummers in rock history, no easy slot for a stand-in to fill. In his place, Rush have tapped German drummer and composer Anika Nilles, who previously drummed for late rock god Jeff Beck.

“We could not be more excited to introduce her to our loyal and dedicated Rush fanbase, whom, we know, will give her every chance to live up to that near impossible role,” Lee said. “Before we hit the stage, we also hope to add another musician or two to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our new fancy dance steps.”

Carrie Nuttall-Peart and Olivia Peart, Neil’s widow and daughter, said in a joint statement that “we are thrilled to support the Fifty Something tour, celebrating a band whose music has resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as both a drummer and lyricist.”

“Neil’s musicianship was singular,” they said. “Compositions of intricacy and power that expanded what rhythm itself could express. As both drummer and lyricist, he was irreplaceable. Inimitable in his artistry, and unmatched in the depth and imagination he brought to the lyrics that inspired and moved so many, he profoundly shaped how fans connected with him and the band, giving voice and meaning to their own lives. As the band enters this new chapter, it promises to be truly unforgettable. We are excited to see how their new vision unfolds, and to hear this legendary music played live once again.”
