Rosé’s Grammy Glow-Up: Did the Stars Align for K-pop’s Biggest Surprise Yet?

Added on November 7, 2025 inMusic News Cards

Ever wonder what happens when a Leo moon collides with a “record of the year” nod? Well, I’ve got a theory—something cosmic, transformative, and, frankly, a little bit wild wakes up in the pop universe . Today’s stars are definitely shining brighter over Rosé—yes, THAT Rosé—the frontwoman with epic pipes and attitude from BLACKPINK, who just did the unthinkable by smashing through the Grammys’ glass ceiling … in killer heels, no less . Can you picture the faces of traditional industry titans when they heard her thunderous track “APT” (with a dash of Bruno Mars magic) is not just nominated, but making history in music’s “main six” categories? It’s enough to give even the most unflappable Aquarius chills . Sometimes, all those astrology memes about manifesting your destiny, especially under a new moon, kinda fit—because Rosé is practically rewriting fate. And get this—while most of us are still hunting down Mercury retrograde’s last prank, she’s celebrating at the Billboard Hot 100 and popping champagne at the MTV VMAs . Astrological coincidence, or was the universe simply waiting for a K-pop idol to unapologetically seize her moment? Either way, if you’re craving the full untamed story, LEARN MORE.

Rosé has officially made Grammys history.

The 28-year-old, a member of K-pop supergroup Blackpink, became the first K-pop idol to have her song be nominated in the Grammys’ main six, general field categories. These awards include album of the year; record of the year; song of the year; best new artist; producer of the year, non-classical; and songwriter of the year, non-classical.

Rosé and her collaborator Bruno Mars nabbed nominations in two of these categories — record of the year, honoring the recording of the song, and song of the year, honoring the songwriting itself — along with a nod in the best pop duo/group performance category for their smash hit, “APT.”

“I’m getting chills right now,” Rosé said earlier this year when asked about the potential to make history at the Grammys during her Hollywood Reporter cover interview.

“I think it’ll be a moment that proves to myself so many things that I grew up doubting,” she continued. “I think if this happens, then it’s going to mean more to so many more people than myself. It’ll just prove a lot in me as well. It’ll just be a moment of celebration for everyone who believes.”

Rosé also earned herself an MTV VMA early this year. The 28-year-old took home the song of the year trophy for “APT,” which spent 45 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Her debut album Rosie, which “APT” served as the first single on, was released in December 2024 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

The singer’s nomination, along with the handful of nominations KPop Demon Hunters received, marks a huge milestone for K-pop in the U.S. overall, acting as a clear indicator of the music genre’s mainstream status. Supergroup BTS first opened the doors for K-pop at the Grammy Awards in 2021 with their nomination in the pop duo/group performance category for their single “Dynamite.” Girl group KATSEYE, a global girl group formed through K-pop training methods by Korean label Hybe and Geffen Records, also scored two nominations.
