Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon, and sources claim the couple was allegedly killed by their son, Nick Reiner.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, first responders were dispatched to the home around 3:30 p.m. for a medical aid call. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman deceased inside the residence. Sources later identified the victims as Rob and Michele Reiner.

Multiple sources told PEOPLE that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, is allegedly responsible for the deaths. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the identities of the victims or named any suspects, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the case.

Who Was Rob Reiner?

Reiner was one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers, with a career spanning decades. After first rising to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on Norman Lear’s groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family, Reiner transitioned into directing, helming beloved classics including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

Born in the Bronx in 1947, Reiner was the son of legendary comedian Carl Reiner, who died in 2020, and actress and singer Estelle Reiner. He later married Michele Singer Reiner in 1989 after the two met during the production of When Harry Met Sally…. The couple shared three children.
