Ever wonder what happens when a Pitch Perfect star’s love story unfolds under the quirky sway of the stars? Rebel Wilson, now blissfully married to sustainable fashion guru Ramona Agruma, recently revealed why it took a minute for her to meet Ramona’s parents. Turns out, not every family’s cosmic chart aligns smoothly when it comes to embracing a same-sex relationship — especially when cultural backgrounds, like Ramona’s Latvian roots, bring a bit of zodiac tension to the mix. But, as Mercury keeps doing its dance in 2024, teaching us all that patience and timing are everything, Rebel’s tale is a testament to love’s persistence transcending differences and generational grooves. From announcing their baby via surrogacy to a dreamy Disneyland engagement, and finally tying the knot in Italy with Ramona’s family coming around just in time — it’s a real-life fairy tale with a starry plot twist. Sometimes, even the stars need a little extra time to shine on love. LEARN MORE

Rebel Wilson has revealed what stopped her from initially meeting her wife Ramona Agruma’s parents.

The Pitch Perfect star, 45, and sustainable clothing brand founder, 41, went public with their romance back in 2022.

Taking to Instagram, Wilson said she finally found her ‘Disney Princess’, writing in the caption: “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove.”

Later that year, they announced the birth of their daughter, Royce, via surrogacy.

And then on Valentine’s Day in 2023, the couple’s storybook relationship went full circle after they got engaged at Disneyland.

They had their first wedding ceremony a year later in Sardinia, Italy, followed by a legal ceremony in Sydney that December, officiated by Wilson’s sister.

Agruma’s family, however, struggled to accept their same-sex relationship – initially.

“Ramona was born in Latvia, and it’s not as LGBTQ+ friendly as other countries are,” Wilson told Today in June 2024.

“I just think some people need a bit more time – and some people won’t ever come around to it, and that’s fine, and that’s their decision.

“There are still parts of the world that aren’t as accepting.”

She went on to say that she was hopeful of building a relationship with her wife’s parents, adding: “I’m really excited to meet them because I know they are very smart. Ramona’s mother is a doctor.

“Roycie is the real icebreaker. They’ve been FaceTiming with her.”

Over time they have embraced the pair, with the Isn’t It Romantic actor admitting that ‘it just took them a little bit of time’.

In May, Wilson revealed that ‘all of [Agruma’s] beautiful family came’ to their Italian wedding last year, ‘and it’s almost like there wasn’t any drama’.

“I think some people from some cultures – because it was the same-sex wedding, I guess,” the star said on SiriusXM Hits1’s show Ben +1.

“They just needed a little bit of time, and now you wouldn’t even notice that anything had happened previously.”

Wilson called it a ‘really happy ending’ after both of her wife’s parents now come and stay with them at their new house.

“It was never feuding,” she clarified. “It took them time, which is fair enough.

“They’re from a different culture, but all worked out in the end, which I think is a good message.”

During an interview with BBC4’s Desert Island Discs programme, Wilson also revealed how her family reacted when she told them the news.

“I’m lucky in my case, even though I come from a very conservative background, it went very, very well,” she said.

“My grandparents, who are in their 90s, just so chilled and cool with it.”
