The Presley family matriarch is reliving another significant event in her late daughter’s love life, this time, her epileptic relationship with actor Nicolas Cage, which ended with a very short-lived marriage.

Lisa Marie Presley passed on in 2023, following complications from bariatric surgery; an event Priscilla Presley recalled as traumatic, as she had to give the order to take her off life support.

The memoir “Softly As I Leave You: Life After Elvis” was released yesterday, and it came with a truckload of juicy details about her daughter’s romantic partners, including Nicolas. She recalled the couple getting into a serious fight on a boat where he tossed her new engagement ring into the ocean.

Nicolas had proposed to Lisa with a $65,000 6-carat diamond ring, which unfortunately did not last long before the actor replaced it with a new one (completely out of circumstance, though). Priscilla explained in the memoir that the couple fought while they sailed off the coast of Catalina Island on Nick’s yacht, the Weston.

She added that Lisa yanked off her ring and threw it at Nicolas, who then got angry and yanked it into the ocean. By the time Nicolas realized what he had done, divers could do little to salvage the ring, which, according to Presley, was lying at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

As reported by In Style, Priscilla revealed that the actor eventually replaced the lost ring two days after the fight. It came in a much bigger diamond, weighing two carats, and accompanied by another engagement ceremony.

Unlike how she felt uneasy about her daughter’s relationship with Michael Jackson, Priscilla confessed that she held a soft spot for Nicolas. The family matriarch looked past his volatile temper and insisted the actor had a very good heart and great capacity for love.

“Unfortunately, the kinetic attraction that drew them together also made it difficult for them to stay together. They were not only romantically passionate but also passionate, period,” Priscilla noted.

The media personality noted that while Lisa inherited her father, Elvis Presley’s temper, Nicolas was the only one who could match the intensity, hence causing their constant clashes. Priscilla revealed that the couple would get into bouts of argument, throwing things at each other, breaking up and making up, and giving everyone hell.

She described the relationship as something extreme on both the good and bad days, which was why they ended things three months after they got legally married.

The duo first set eyes on each other in 2000, when they were both deeply committed to different people. Nicolas shared during an interview in 2003 that he discovered she was super funny and likes to shoot things straight as soon as they got talking.

US Weekly stated that the couple began dating in 2001, after they left their respective partners: Lisa was engaged to John Oszajca, and Nicolas was married to Patricia Arquette. The former couple got married in 2002 and split the same year; Cage’s marriage was Lisa’s third attempt at finding love.

She welcomed her first two kids, Riley and Benjamin Keough, with her first husband, Danny Keough. In 2003, Lisa explained that what attracted her to the Cage was the actor, who differed from anyone she was used to.

Reacting to the divorce, Cage stated, “It’s sad and I miss her every day. And sometimes I wish we couldn’t have rushed the marriage and sometimes I regret rushing the divorce, but it just seemed like it wasn’t going to change.”

Lisa married Michael Lockwood in 2006, two years after her divorce from Cage was finalized. They welcomed twin daughters, Harper and Finley Lockwood, in 2008, before finalizing their divorce in 2021.

Priscilla was not a party to Michael’s marriage to her daughter, as he felt their union was flawed and built on the wrong foundation. The Blast shared that she was the least excited person about the marriage when the rumors began.

Priscilla explained that she found no tangible reason to believe their relationship was real and questioned his true intentions towards her daughter.

The author added that the timing of the marriage clashed with a period of media scrutiny for the King of Pop, and she felt he may have been trying to revamp his public image with the union.

Priscilla insisted that Michael’s innocence and soft demeanor to the media was all a facade, noting that beneath that was a manipulative human who had ill plans for her daughter.

She also noticed that the performer often avoided interaction with adults whenever he was around at family events, instead spending time with the kids. Lisa and Michael tied the knot in 1994 in a private ceremony in the Dominican Republic, but parted ways two years later in 1996, citing irreconcilable differences.

Since her daughter died in 2023, Priscilla has focused on the family she left behind, including her grandchildren. Sources close to the family shared that Riley Keough welcomed her second child earlier in the year, although she kept it private, just as she had with her first.

As noted by The Blast, Riley and her husband Ben Smith-Petersen became parents for the first time in 2022 via surrogacy due to her issues with Lyme disease, according to her interview with Vanity Fair.

The actress and her husband met on the set of “Mad Max: Fury Road” and eventually fell in love during a shoot in Australia. The duo tied the knot in Nepal in a Hindu ceremony and also exchanged vows in California in 2015.

While the death of Lisa left behind enough drama for the family, including a war over assets between Priscilla and Riley, the 80-year-old noted that they have since resolved their conflicts and found closure.
