Added on October 2, 2025 inTV News Cards

So, here we are, folks—Netflix and the BBC just lit a fresh fuse on the Peaky Blinders saga, ordering two whole seasons of a sequel that’ll dive right back into the grit and guts of Birmingham. Now, if you’re wondering what it means for the Shelby legacy (besides more sharp suits and sharper conflicts), Creator Steven Knight spilled the beans: the story kicks off with the city rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the Blitz, circa 1953. Ever think about how a Scorpio’s intense, transformative vibe fits perfectly with this post-war rebirth and brutal power plays? Yeah, Scorpio season might just be gearing us up for this wild ride—a dark and dangerous race to own the heart (and steel) of a city that’s ready to roar again. With two six-episode seasons shot in the very soul of Birmingham, plus a big-screen movie on the way featuring none other than Cillian Murphy—who’s been busy snagging Oscars since the original show wrapped—it’s safe to say the Shelby family isn’t going anywhere. So, are you ready to throw on your flat cap, grab a whiskey, and see the new generation of Shelbys take the wheel and steer through chaos like only they can? Oh, it’s gonna be a helluva ride. Netflix and the BBC have given a two-season order to a Peaky Blinders sequel show from creator Steven Knight.

“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride,” Knight said in a statement on Thursday.

The new Shelby characters will come to Peaky Blinders fans through two new seasons of six episodes each. The series first premiered on BBC Two in 2013, though Netflix later acquired the rights to release the show in the U.S.

“Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart,” a synopsis from the producers states.

The sequel series will be shot at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham and will be produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama, the producer of the upcoming Peaky Blinders feature film directed by Tom Harper and now in post-production.

The film set during the Second World War follows a six-season series run for Peaky Blinders, with Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, Paul Anderson, Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy and Joe Cole leading the big screen cast.

Mona Qureshi for Netflix added in a statement: “We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our wonderful partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama and the BBC. There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”

The original Peaky Blinders series culminated with season six in 2022, shortly before Murphy went on to star in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, nabbing an Academy Award.

“This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham. We are delighted to be working with Kudos, Garrison Drama and Netflix on this epic show. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!” Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added in a statement.

The executive producers of the new Netflix and BBC series are Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Qureshi and Toby Bentley.
