Ozzy Osbourne has died ‘surrounded by love’ at the age of 76, a statement from his family said.

The statement read, in full: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

The British artist was the lead singer of heavy metal band Black Sabbath, with the band rising to prominence in the 1970s.

Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019, and was forced to cancel a number of tour shows as a result.

The Birmingham-born personality also suffered from a number of other health problems as a result of injuries following a fall in 2019.

Nicknamed as the ‘Prince of Darkness’, Osbourne was also known for his time on reality TV show The Osbournes in the 2000s.

The heartbreaking news comes just weeks after Osbourne performed a farewell concert for fans.

This performance came three years after his last appearance on stage, in Birmingham at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The show included the full Black Sabbath lineup of Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Osbourne, their first reunion in 20 years.

Other music acts at the show included Steven Tyler of Aersosmith, Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones, and performances from legends such as Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Slayer.

It would mark Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s final live performance together, an emotional occasion that was further amplified with other bands from the genre.

Speaking at the event, he told the crowd of around 40,000 in front of him, and the five million watching online: “You’ve no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Performing from a throne at the home of Premier League football club Aston Villa, Villa Park, Osbourne carried out what his wife, Sharon, coined as his ‘perfect farewell’ to fans.

Osbourne was known for his outlandish acts on stage, such as biting the head off a bat, and dressing up as the Prince of Darkness.

The artist was known for his work as part of Black Sabbath and also as a solo artist.

With memorable songs such as Iron Man, Paranoid, and Crazy Train, his legacy will no doubt live on.

His success also resulted in two inductions into the UK Music Hall of Fame and the US Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, once each for his work as part of Black Sabbath, and once each for his solo work.

Away from music, the rock star was known in the 2000s for his role on MTV reality TV show The Osbournes.

It followed his chaotic life with his wife Sharon, and two of their children, Kelly and Jack, in Los Angeles.
