Ozzy Osbourne‘s past comments about his funeral have resurfaced hours after his heartbreaking passing at 76.

The heavy metal legend took his final breath on July 22, 2025, with his family confirming his death in a poignant statement. His loved ones are yet to announce their plans to honor him; however, they may consider his final wishes.

Ozzy Osbourne first addressed his thoughts on his funeral in 2011, nine years before he revealed he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Although the debilitating condition rendered him immobile, sources claim his family had hoped he would stick around longer.

During a 2011 interview, Ozzy was asked about his funeral plans and how he hoped people would honor his memory. The former Black Sabbath frontman responded positively, noting that as a rock star, he was “very lucky” to have a great life while many drowned in misery.

Given the happiness he enjoyed and his stellar achievements, Ozzy hoped he would be celebrated and not mourned. “I don’t want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say ‘thanks,'” he claimed.

He doubled down on wanting a celebration of life rather than a “mope-fest,” stressing that he did not care about his funeral music.

Ozzy claimed his family could choose whatever music they wanted, even if it were “a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen” as long as it made them smile.

Additionally, The Daily Mail reported the singer joked about leaving a hilarious video where he would ask a doctor for a second opinion on his death.

Although Ozzy claimed he did not mind what music his family chose to play at his funeral, he changed his mind in a 2016 interview. The late entertainer declared songs from his catalogue must not be a part of his memorial, noting he would be “f-cking embarrassed” if it were.

Ozzy also walked back his 2011 comments about happy music at his funeral, declaring that he was dead and the atmosphere should match that vibe. As for what music he would prefer, Ozzy revealed he wanted to honor the band that inspired his music career.

The Prince of Darkness has been vocal about his love for The Beatles, claiming they motivated him to become a musician after hearing their 1964 hit “She Loves You.”

Based on his decades-long love for the band, Ozzy hoped his funeral music would feature songs from their albums, such as “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” or “Revolver.”

Ozzy’s death broke the hearts of thousands, including his beloved family, who did not get to spend as much time as they wanted with him. The Blast reported that a source claimed the Osbournes had been hopeful about the patriarch’s remaining time on earth despite his years-long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“There was much hope that he would be around for a lot longer than this, but at one point, there were fears they would not get him back from Los Angeles for the concert earlier this month,” the source shared.

Ozzy returned to his Buckinghamshire mansion to live out his final days and enjoy a farewell concert with the Black Sabbath band. The source added that he was surrounded by family during his final days, with his daughters, Aimee and Kelly, flying in from Los Angeles to cater to his needs.

His son, Jack, had also flown from his home in Idaho to spend time with the heavy metal icon. Ozzy welcomed his three children with his second wife, Sharon Osbourne, and shared three other children with his first wife.

Ozzy’s death was confirmed in a joint statement by his wife, Sharon, and his children, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis.They announced the heartbreaking news on Instagram, sharing a picture from the singer’s final performance with the Black Sabbath band.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis,” they captioned the post.

Their statement received over four million likes and thousands of comments from fans and celebrities who adored Ozzy. “Thank you for everything Oz! RIP,” the rock band Papa Roach wrote. Cristina Scabbia, from Lacuna Coil, echoed similar sentiments, noting:

“Rest in Peace, our Prince of Darkness. We will all miss you very much.”
