The former president of the United States criticized the new administration on social media following Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension. The late-night talk show host lost his program after making controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s shooter.

The TV personality’s words sparked outrage, particularly among MAGA supporters, resulting in the indefinite suspension of his show. Donald Trump proudly celebrated the end of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” while Barack Obama pushed for change.

Obama addressed the end of Kimmel’s late-night show on X, referencing an article that covered his cancellation and how it was allegedly tied to a greater scheme. The article titled “Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel” implied the government was abusing its power.

The article noted the FCC was prohibited by law from interfering with one’s rights to freedom of speech. Yet, FCC head Brendan Carr threatened to revoke the broadcasting licenses of any station that aired Kimmel’s content. Following the threat, Nexstar, the largest owner of local stations in America, swiftly folded.

Nexstar, according to the report, was attempting to acquire one of its major rivals for $6.2 billion. On that note, the article speculated that they threw Kimmel under the bus because the merger would require FCC approval.

Obama appeared to agree with the narrative, noting Trump’s administration had worsened the cancel culture dilemma. Obama claimed they had taken it “to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”

Obama echoed similar sentiments about Trump’s efforts to interfere with people’s rights to freedom of speech, referencing another article. The report covered the story of Karen Attiah, an opinion columnist for The Washington Post, who was fired for her social media posts.

Attiah had addressed gun violence and “racial double standards” in the wake of Kirk’s death. Although she did not celebrate the right-wing activist’s passing, her words were deemed insensitive, and she was fired.

Obama noted her case was “precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent.”

“Media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it,” Obama added. His words sparked criticism from X users, who claimed he wasn’t as innocent as he portrayed himself to be. Many reminded him that his administration got Trump banned from X and Roseanne Barr cancelled.

Following news of Kimmel’s indefinite suspension, The Blast shared that Trump couldn’t be happier. He proudly celebrated the end of the latter’s late-night talk show on his Truth Social platform, writing:

Trump applauded ABC for having the courage to do what needed to be done, noting the network wasn’t at a loss because “Kimmel has ZERO talent.” Trump alleged that Kimmel’s ratings were worse than those of Stephen Colbert, another late-night show host who was canceled this year.

The POTUS claimed the cancellation fever wasn’t over, imploring NBC to fire Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, who he described as “total losers.” It is worth noting that all the late-night talk show hosts that Trump wanted canceled had never shied away from criticizing him and his administration on their shows.

Sources claimed Kimmel did not handle his indefinite suspension well, alleging that he was “absolutely f-cking livid” by ABC’s decision. The Blast reported that sources noted he wouldn’t stay quiet and was looking for ways to end his contract with the network.

One insider claimed staff members were similarly shocked by the news, noting they were “wandering around like aimless cows.” The decision to suspend Kimmel indefinitely was made hours before the show was scheduled to film.

Kimmel sparked outrage during a recent episode of his program when he claimed the MAGA administration was trying to blame Democrats for Kirk’s murder. He alleged they were doing everything to deny the shooter was a Republican while aiming to “score political points.”
