The new menu has an ally like no other – R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and Grammy winner Montell Jordan. The doughnut giants recruited Jordan to remake his iconic 1995 No. 1 hit, “This Is How We Do It” into “This Is How We Dozen” and the timing couldn’t be better as it’s the hit song’s 30th anniversary (if you’re feeling old right about now, you’re not alone).
The Blast chatted with Jordan about the partnership ahead of the new doughnuts’ release.
“I’ve been a Krispy Kreme fan for as long as I can remember, and so, the idea of them wanting to work with me was fantastic,” Jordan told The Blast exclusively. “Now, the idea of ‘This Is How We Dozen’ is genius. I’m a little upset I didn’t actually come up with that idea.”

With this year being the 30th anniversary of “This Is How We Do It,” there’s no better way to celebrate than with a sweet treat in hand and a catchy tune filling your head.
“Talk about bringing OGs together. They have their original glaze, which they call the OG. And then also, ‘This Is How We Do It,’ I talk about the OGs,” he said. “You know that song that lives rent-free in your head? Can’t wait to start doing this campaign so we can inspire people to be singing the song, but to a whole new rendition.”

When asked about his favorite Krispy Kreme doughnut flavors, Jordan shared how he would create his perfect dozen. But first, he said his favorite is the OG original glaze.
“My second favorite, I would say, is probably the OG cake, the cake version of the original glaze. It goes best with coffee for me,” he said. “And of the new donuts, I have to go with the Biscoff Cookie Butter flavor.”
He rounded out his perfect dozen with OREO Cookies and Kreme, a strawberry sprinkles for his daughter, a Pumpkin Spice Cake, and a Maple Glaze, leaving room for a few duplicates so everyone in the family is sure to get their favorite.

“This Is How We Do It!” We know you just sang that iconic line! (It’s okay, we did too!)
If you can believe it, that song hit the charts 30 years ago!
“30 years for me speaks longevity. 30 years for me speaks connection. I think that I’m fortunate enough that people have connected with more than just the song. I think they’ve connected to the different versions of myself that have presented themselves to authentically still be here 30 years later,” Jordan told The Blast. “I would say I appreciate the two things that have been around for a long time have come together to make something even better, and I think that partnership of doing this with Krispy Kreme makes me better.”
Jordan said that bringing music to the iconic doughnuts is “something that is a life thing for us, me and my family.”

“And 30 years under the belt, I think signifies this isn’t just something that’s hot for right now,” he continued. “It’s something that’s timeless.”

Jordan has found ways along his professional journey to evolve with the times and reinvent himself when the time is right.
“I think that when I look back over my life, I see it’s happened in seasons almost. Like there was a musical season where my music helped touch the heart. There was a ministry season where my messages helped save souls,” he passionately explained. “I think there is a marriage season where my wife and I have poured into the lives of marriages and try and help family legacy.”
He then explained that he’s currently on a “medical journey” and hopes to help save lives throughout this season. And one thing he’s learned along the way through all his seasons is that there’s always a “start and a finish.”

“And I think any season that goes on for too long isn’t a season, it’s a habit. So I have made it a point to not get into a habit or get into a cycle, but to be in a place of understanding that if I’m in a really good season, I know that at some point that season has to come to an end. And at the same breath, if I’m in a bad season, I know that won’t last forever,” he explained. “Because seasons always change. It comes to an end. So part of my reinventing myself is a part of recognizing what season I’m in, why I’m here, and what I’m supposed to do while I’m in it.”
What’s next for Jordan? He said he’s working on a documentary right now that should be released in 2026. He’s also hoping to plan a 30-city tour for next year to celebrate 30 years of “This Is How We Do It.”
“We’d love if it was possible to bring Krispy Kreme along on this journey with me as a sponsor or a teammate,” he said. “To go into those 30 cities and do some really cool things to help expand the brand as well as the message that I’m bringing to try to help bring awareness to certain diseases that I want people to get healed form early detection.”
