So Paramount’s gone and dropped a little Easter egg for Mission: Impossible superfans this week, just in time for the flick’s digital release—and here’s the kicker: decoding it takes some serious Morse code mojo. Now, I don’t know about you, but with Mercury doing its notorious dance in retrograde, are we supposed to expect communication breakdowns or secret signals? Seems fitting, right? The official X account teased fans with a “mission compromised” alert and claimed the full movie was streaming on YouTube. But spoilers: it wasn’t your typical stream. Instead, viewers were treated to a cryptic spy-radio broadcast—dots and dashes galore, actually the entire movie script in Morse code. Whether you’re a codebreaker or just in it for the fun, this cheeky stunt timed to National Radio Day is pure gold. Tom Cruise’s latest, and maybe last, Ethan Hunt adventure isn’t just a movie—it’s an interstellar puzzle invitation. Ready to accept your mission? LEARN MORE

Paramount is offering a unique gift for fans to promote this week’s digital release of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, but you might need to be skilled at Morse code to fully appreciate it.

The official X account for the Tom Cruise-led film franchise posted an enticing offer on Wednesday, although it was not quite as good as it initially seemed. “The mission was compromised,” the account teased. “So we had one option left: release everything. Full movie on YouTube now.” The post included a link to a YouTube video from the Paramount Movies page.

However, once fans clicked on the link, they were taken to a moving image suggesting that an IMF spy radio is relaying a message. The video features an audio recording of a long string of dots and dashes — which happens to be the script of the eighth Mission: Impossible movie played in Morse code.

“A secure livestream of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning full movie is running now,” reads the cheeky description of the video. It goes on to reference the rogue AI that IMF aims to destroy in the movie series: “But the Entity has infiltrated every major streaming platform, so this livestream was compromised. The full script had to be transmitted in Morse Code to avoid detection. We need your help decoding it. Your mission begins now.”

Comments for the YouTube video have been turned off, but responses to the X post suggest that users got a kick out of the stunt that was timed to National Radio Day.

“Peak trolling,” wrote one user who added a crying emoji. Another individual responded, “The entire script in Morse Code. Insane! Love it lol.”

Director Christopher McQuarrie‘s movie hit theaters in May and was billed as Cruise’s farewell to character Ethan Hunt. Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg also star in the film that was released Tuesday on digital formats. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is set to debut at a later date on Paramount+, where the franchise’s first seven titles are currently available.

In his review of the eighth movie for The Hollywood Reporter, chief film critic David Rooney noted, “Cruise’s commitment to performing his own stunts and giving audiences the analog thrill of in-camera daredevilry instead of digital fakery has progressed to ever more astonishing feats over the course of eight Mission: Impossible movies.”
