Added on April 10, 2025 inCelebrity News Cards

Ever wondered what the stars say about spontaneous decisions, like getting hitched in Las Vegas just for kicks? If you’re checking your horoscope today, you might just find echoes of Michael Cera’s audaciously carefree spirit! The beloved actor has shown us that life’s too short for conventional choices. From his iconic role as George Michael Bluth in Arrested Development to slapping Rihanna’s backside in This Is The End, Cera’s career is a whirlwind of memorable, often off-the-wall moments. But perhaps one of his wildest escapades was nearly marrying Aubrey Plaza in Sin City—a plot twist worthy of the most unexpected astrological forecast! Join me as we delve deeper into this whimsical chapter of Cera’s life and explore the intersection of humor, spontaneity, and the cosmic game of chance that governs us all. LEARN MORE.

Michael Cera is certainly more than capable of straying from the norm with his characters, and it seems as if his carefree persona stems from his real-life personality.

Since rising to fame as George Michael Bluth in Arrested Development, Cera has played some pretty memorable roles in his lifetime, which included being able to slap Rihanna’s a** in This Is The End.

He also appeared in a viral Super Bowl ad as the creator of CeraVe, and considering how random the 36-year-old’s roles often are, it frankly wouldn’t surprise me if he genuinely did found the skincare brand.

However, in potentially his strangest move so far, Cera very nearly got married to Aubrey Plaza when travelling through Las Vegas.

The Canadian actor was briefly in a relationship with The White Lotus actress in the wake of filming Scott Pilgrim vs the World together in 2010.

Fortunately, the 36-year-old didn’t have to fight off seven evil exes in order to win her approval, and they were in fact planning an ‘Elvis chapel situation’ in Vegas, where an Elvis Presley impersonator would hand over a marriage certificate.

Alas, unlike Ross and Rachel, the two never went through with it, but their reasoning for even considering the move was certainly a strange one.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2023, the Barbie actor revealed that the two simply thought it would be funny if they got married and instantly divorced, so they could call each other ex-husband and ex-wife.

He said: “Well, we were driving through Vegas and we almost just spontaneously took a detour and got married.

“I think the idea was to then get a divorce right away, so we could call each other ‘my ex-husband’ and ‘my ex-wife’ at like… 20 [years old].”

Considering they were already considering divorce, it perhaps isn’t a surprise that their relationship didn’t last much longer, but it seems clear that the two remain friends.

Cera added: “I mean, she’s always been so committed to everything that she does. It’s not surprising to me that she’s doing really well.

“The thing that’s surprising to me is how much she’s producing and putting together projects. It’s amazing. Ingrid Goes West? That was so great.”

Plaza married American screenwriter and film producer Jeff Baena in 2021, before he tragically passed away earlier this year at the age of 47.

Cera keeps his wife Nadine out of the public eye, but he revealed that the pair welcomed a second son together on The Jimmy Fallon show back in 2024.
