Curious about the full tale and the chaos it sparked? LEARN MORE.

Margot Robbie has revealed how she was left mortified when a male co-star gifted her a book to encourage her to lose weight.

The 35-year-old screen star described the insulting present that she received from a mystery actor as the ‘worst gift of all time’, for obvious reasons.

She explained he surprised her with a book titled French Women Don’t Get Fat, which claims to reveal the ‘simple secrets of how to enjoy food and stay slim and healthy’.

Even if the contents of it is absolutely extraordinary, a book of this subject matter is the last thing you should be doling out unprovoked.

Robbie opened up about the outrageous gift while chatting to Complex alongside Grammy-winning singer Charli XCX ahead of the release of Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights later this week.

The Aussie actress stars alongside Jacob Elordi in the highly-anticipated film, which is based off of Emily Brontë’s 1847 gothic book.

Charli XCX is in charge of the soundtrack for Wuthering Heights, and when the movie hits cinemas on Friday (13 February), she’s releasing an album of the same name.

And if the music star, 33, is thinking of getting Robbie a memento to congratulate her on her epic role in Wuthering Heights, she knows exactly what not to buy her.

While the pair were discussing the worst gifts they have ever received, The Wolf of Wall Street legend recalled how she was left feeling insulted after a male colleague presented her with a book written by Mireille Guiliano.

The French author, 79, originally penned the best-selling paperback in 2004 after visiting the US as an exchange student and piling on a few pounds.

According to her website, Guiliano sought to find out the secret behind how ‘French women don’t get fat, but they do eat bread and pastry, drink wine, and regularly enjoy three-course meals’.

She sold millions of copies of the book, which was described as a ‘charming, sensible, and powerfully life-affirming view of health and eating for our times’.

These were not words that sprang to mind when Robbie received it, though.

Recalling the bizarre gift exchange that has stuck with her all these years, the mother-of-one told Charli: “Very, very early in my career, an actor I worked with – a male actor – gave me a book called ‘Why French Women Don’t Get Fat’. And it was essentially a book telling you to eat less.”

Understandably, the former Neighbours star was not pleased with the present.

Robbie continued: “I was like, “Whoa, f**k you, dude!'”

She then explained that the mystery male actor who had the cheek to award her the book doesn’t run in the same circles as her these days.

“I have no idea where he would even be now, it was really back in the day,” Robbie said, as Charli – real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison – chimed in to joke: “Your career’s over, babe.”

Robbie then added: “He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight, I was like, ‘Wow’.”

She didn’t offer any further details about the identity of the actor, though.

Meanwhile, Charli revealed that the worst gift she has ever received is a ‘small jar of ashes’ she received from a fan, which contained a portion of the cremated remains of their mother.

“It was a jar on a necklace and I just didn’t quite know what to do with it,” the singer said. “You don’t want to be like, ‘Well I don’t want this’. Because that could be really offensive.

“So I sort of just took it. I don’t know where it is now…”
