Rhiannon Fish has graced our screens in a plethora of Hallmark films, but, as she enthusiastically shared with me during our phone chat, *A Costa Rican Wedding* holds a special place in her heart—like that one comfy sweater you never want to throw away, am I right?
In this delightful flick, Rhiannon plays Emily, the maid of honor for her best friend Phoebe. Now, picture this: Emily has just been dumped by her boyfriend Shane (classic), and she’s crashing at Phoebe’s place, eager to ensure the wedding goes off without a hitch. No pressure, right?
But things take a wild turn when Emily has to wrangle with Phoebe’s family, who think she’s a walking disaster waiting to ruin the big day. Throughout their escapade in a picturesque rainforest, Emily and Ryan unravel not only their own relationship woes but also, let’s be honest, some clever comedic moments that keep the audience chuckling. Rhiannon expressed how shooting on location in Costa Rica added layers of authenticity and vibrancy to the film. “Going to Costa Rica was magical,” she says. “We used real animals like spiders, tarantulas, and snakes! Can you imagine? My coworkers were often cuter than most of the guys I’ve dated.”
And trust me, the stunning waterfalls and scenic views we see on screen aren’t computer-generated. Rhiannon compared her experience to a previous film where CGI was given an A+ for effort, stating, “It was awesome to actually film in such breathtaking real places!”
Of course, there’s a bit of monkey business involved—literally. To lure the adorable monkeys for the scenes, Rhiannon joked, “We smeared so much banana on backpacks. Seriously, they snatched things left and right! Give them a banana, and they’re basically instant stars!” Honestly, I can’t even bribe my dog that easily!
Now, let’s get real for a moment—Rhiannon beautifully articulates a struggle we can all relate to: that nagging feeling of not measuring up. “I think we’ve all navigated those feelings at some point,” she remarked. “There was a moment of imposter syndrome that hit me out there—what if they’d made a huge mistake casting me?” Honestly, I sometimes wonder if I’m qualified to even binge-watch reality TV without qualifications!
Rhiannon’s love for Costa Rica is palpable. She instantly fell for its enchanting culture and charming people, igniting a dream of having her own destination wedding someday—maybe with a monkey officiating! “I don’t have enough nice things to say about it!” she exclaimed. “It’s absolutely magical. Their philosophy is Pura Vida, meaning ‘simple life’—and wow, do the locals live that ethos beautifully.”
When talking about the film’s playful chemistry, Rhiannon believes the character dynamics breathe life into the narrative. Her character initially misjudges Ryan’s cool demeanor as detachment, but like any good Hallmark movie (or a quirky rom-com), things spiral into a deeper, romantic resolve.

Rhiannon appreciates how Hallmark is evolving—a commendable mix of inclusivity and maintaining that core charm rooted in love. “Hallmark has made some cool changes,” she said. “They’re still at the heart of what the network represents—love! Plus, we’re getting to do these amazing destination films. It’s truly a dream.”
As for her future endeavors, she’s got more *Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths* films lined up, alongside a sequel for *A Royal Proposal: A Prince in Paradise II*, which she’s ecstatic about. After all those monkey encounters and emerald landscapes, it sounds like Rhiannon’s got quite the adventure ahead!
