Grammy Award-winner Lizzo has detailed how she managed to shrink down several sizes after denying using Ozempic to aid her weight loss.
Best known for her albums Cuz I Love You (released in 2018) and Special (2022), the 36-year-old was forced to deny using Ozempic – a Type 2 Diabetes drug that many, including celebrities, have been using to lose weight – last year after social media trolls couldn’t believe her transformation.
In September 2024, she captioned video of herself sighing into the camera: “When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit,” firmly squashing the rumours of her using the diabetes drug.
Her Instagram carousel also featured a screenshot of a troll commenting on her posts.
“Did she use Ozempic or did she snort coke,” they asked, prompting Lizzo to respond: “Whyyyy do u follow me?”

Just a few days earlier, she’d uploaded clips onto social media of herself working hard at the gym.
One of the clips was soundtracked by Nicki Minaj saying: “The fact that you would even discuss my looks is insane. I’m a bad b****, always been a bad b****.”
Now, in a TikTok Live onTuesday (April 22), Lizzo – real name Melissa Jefferson – set the record straight about her weight loss journey with a ‘calorie deficit’ explanation.
“I do something sweet. It’s gotta be with some sort of like carb,” she told her fanbase, which exceeds 25 million on TikTok.
“I’ll have like almond butter and toast. So, everybody’s body is different. Find out what works for you. [What] works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out.”
The music star also revealed how she’d consume ‘two to three’ large Starbucks drinks every day prior to her health journey, and has officially quit drinking coffee in order to ‘regulate my nervous system’.
She went on to add: “I’ve been working to get my anxiety under control for years. And I meditated. I calmed myself down. And I isolated a little bit, but not like made myself lonely, not the way I used to when I was depressed.
“I isolated myself in a mindful way where I had no distractions. I had to start applying a calorie deficit, because I was prone to binging. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking.
“I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that. And I just focused on me.”
