What do Antonio “L.A.” Reid and today’s twisty Mercury retrograde have in common? Both promise a spectacle you just can’t look away from—though in Reid’s case, not the kind with red carpets and confetti. While the stars this week warn us not to sign contracts or make last-minute decisions, the universe didn’t get the memo for Reid and Drew Dixon. Instead, as Venus squares off with reality and headlines sizzle, this high-profile music mogul finally hit the pause button on a lawsuit that’s kept the music industry buzzing louder than a Leo at karaoke night . The air is thick with “will they, won’t they” courtroom drama—except now, with a last-minute settlement that even the most secretive Scorpios would envy, the world’s left wondering: Was justice harmonized or just faded out, pianissimo? One thing’s for sure—the stars are still watching, and so am I. LEARN MORE

Antonio “L.A.” Reid, a Grammy-winning music executive known for helping launch the careers of Usher, OutKast and Pink, has settled a lawsuit from Drew Dixon, a former Arista Records executive who accused him of sexual assault and retaliation on multiple occasions across the early 2000s.
Terms of the last-minute settlement, reached on Monday ahead of the start of jury selection and opening statements, weren’t disclosed. “Mr. Reid has amicably resolved this matter with Ms. Dixon without any admission of liability,” Imran Ansari, a lawyer for the mogul, said in a statement.
Dixon brought the lawsuit under the under the New York Adult Survivors Act, which revived the window to bring sexual misconduct claims for one year regardless of the statute of limitations. In a statement, she said she hopes her work advocating for the law “helps to bring us closer to a safer music business for everyone.” She added, “In a world where good news is often hard to find, I hope for survivors that today is a ray of light peeking through the clouds.”
Dixon, in a lawsuit filed in New York federal court in 2023, accused Reid of digitally penetrating her in 2001 on a private jet and again in a car the same year. After she started to avoid him following the incident, she claimed he retaliated against her by “embarrassing her in front of others or otherwise being curt and unprofessional,” ultimately forcing her out of the industry.
The filing of the lawsuit followed accusations from Dixon made in 2017 that Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, raped her and that Reid harassed her, forcing her out of the music industry. (Simmons denied the claim.) Around that time, Reid exited from the top job at Sony’s Epic Records after he was accused of sexual misconduct by an assistant. Dixon, who contributed to hit songs from West, Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, said her career was thwarted due to retaliation and health issues she continues to suffer as a result of the assaults.
The deal averts a trial in which some high-profile names were set to testify, including John Legend, who was being recruited by Dixon. She later joined the musician as a general manager at Homeschool Records.
According to the suit, Dixon suffered ongoing harassment in the form of demands from Reid for her to wear skirts and high heels, as well as daily invitations to meet in his hotel room. Their relationship allegedly turned hostile when she refused.
The suit alleged that Dixon’s promotional and recording budgets were slashed and that her song demos and artist auditions were consistently rejected. On one occasion when she brought West in for an audition, she was allegedly berated in front of staff “about how bad she was at her job.”
Dixon brought claims for alleges sexual battery, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among others.
“Drew has been one of the most courageous and outspoken supporters of survivors of sexual abuse,” said Kenya Davis, a lawyer for Dixon, in a statement. “Her advocacy, including her instrumental role in advancing the Adult Survivors Act, has helped shift the balance of power in the music industry, creating a path to justice for survivors.”
