So Kristen Bell just stirred the pot on Instagram with a wedding anniversary post that’s… let’s say, a little unorthodox. Celebrating 12 years with hubby Dax Shepard, she quoted him saying, “I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.” Yep, you read that right. Amid Mercury’s tricky retrograde vibes on October 20, encouraging us all to rethink communications, her post sparked a whirlwind of reactions—from fans calling it the “most romantic thing ever” to others urging her to “read the room” during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Pushback was so intense Kristen decided to slam the brakes on comments. Is this a quirky private joke or just a cosmic misfire in social media etiquette? Either way, it’s got us wondering—when Venus and Mars are off-kilter, are even love notes best handled with a pinch of caution? LEARN MORE
Kristen Bell has restricted comments on her Instagram post after a backlash over her recognising a dozen years with Dax Shepard.
She recently celebrated 12 years of marriage in a post which showed Shepard, though the caption besides the image got quite a bit of a reaction.
Bell wrote: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me:
“I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.”
It’s certainly not your traditional wedding anniversary message and the reactions to it were mixed, to say the least, with some of their friends such as Terry Crews saying ‘this is LOVE’ and others calling it ‘the most romantic thing I’ve heard’, while many others thought it was quite the opposite.
There was quite the backlash to the post as plenty of people hoped the caption was an in-joke between Bell and Shepard.
Several people, Howie Mandel among them, joked that Shepard’s declaration that he would never kill his wife despite being ‘heavily incentivized’ to should get him a job writing for a greetings card company.
Many others, however, were not really seeing the funny side at all as they said she posted it ‘during domestic violence awareness month’, while some asked Bell ‘please don’t joke’ about it.
Someone else said she should ‘read the room, hun’ and another said it seemed like a ‘weird quote’.
Even the NBC show Dateline hopped into the comments to say ‘screenshotted’, and Bell has since restricted comments on several of her posts to put a lid on them.

It’s not the first time Bell and Shepard have been strange on social media.
When she got nominated for an Emmy for Netflix show Nobody Wants This he posted a congratulations to her in the form of her doing some naked stretches with a red modesty box placed over her bum.
She seems to have been fine with it as she shared the post to her own socials and her celebrity friends seemed to find the funny side as they cheered Bell on.
Shepard responded to Mae Whitman’s comment of ‘Incredible form’ with a string of emojis indicating he was crying with laughter.
Elsewhere in their marriage, Bell revealed that their children had been trying to order non-alcoholic beer after getting a taste for it at home and said she told them ‘maybe we just keep that for home time’.
