For those unfamiliar with the events that occurred during Kohberger’s sentencing on July 23, Alivea shared a victim impact statement that left everyone, including the judge, wiping away tears.
“I’m not here today to speak in grief. I’m here to speak in truth, because the truth is my sister Kaylee and her best friend Maddie were not yours to take,” Alivea told Kohberger inside the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho. “They were not yours to study, to stalk, or to silence. They were two pieces of a whole, the perfect yin and yang. They are everything that you could never be: loved, accepted, vibrant, accomplished, brave, and powerful.”

She continued, “The truth is, the scariest part about you is how painfully average you turned out to be. The truth is, you’re as dumb as they come, stupid, clumsy, slow, sloppy, weak, dirty.”
But it was Alivea’s final statement that truly ignited the public’s reaction.
“You want the truth. Here’s the one you’ll hate the most, if you hadn’t attacked them in their sleep, in the middle of the night, like a pedophile, Kaylee would have kicked your f-cking a-s.”

According to Alivea, she knew her statement would be powerful. She was also, however, concerned that she’d face trouble of her own the day of Kohberger’s sentencing.
“I was prepared to be arrested that day,” Alivea shared, adding, “I think that every single one of us were.”
Alivea revealed that she was motivated “by the rage on [Kohberger’s] face” as she recited her impact statement. “Man, was he mad.”
She went on to say that seeing Kohberger seethe was “a big point of why I did what I did.”
“To make him feel small because he is,” she said. “It actually makes me really emotional. I got up there knowing that my speech wasn’t to Kaylee and Maddie. It was for them.”

Throughout Alivea Goncalves’ impact statement, she laced it with a plethora of different facts about the killer, including his failed rap career and his online IQ test.
Alivea revealed that she had put a great deal of time and effort into perfecting her statement, including memorizing it so that she could maintain eye contact with Kohberger.
“I had one shot at it, and I was going to make the most of it,” she said, later sharing that she studied Kohberger intensely before his sentencing.
“I mean, I stalked the stalker. I found everything that I could online from the beginning of time to now. It fueled me to know that I got you pegged,” she shared.

On social media, users immediately began praising Alivea for delivering a moving and chilling impact statement once it started going viral.
“SHE DIDN’T STUTTER, HER VOICE DIDN’T WAVER, NOTHINGGGGG,” someone wrote on TikTok.
Someone else noted, “I never heard an applause after a victim statement.”
Another commenter focused on the speech’s likely impact on Kohberger’s ego, writing, “This probably had him fuming on the inside. He’s a huge egotistical narcissist.”
The praise for Alivea didn’t stop there, either.
“That’s a big sis,” someone else wrote. “God bless all the victims’ families.”
“Honestly, though, this is probably the only statement that got under his skin and made him mad,” another social media user added. “Sociopaths HATE being told and made to feel like they are nothing — being reminded of their failures.”
Kohberger pleaded guilty to the four murders days before his sentencing on July 23. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
