So, here’s a head-scratcher to kick things off: how does a cosmic pop icon like Katy Perry, riding high on a Blue Origin rocket, end up feeling like a “human piñata”? Talk about shooting for the stars and catching a barrage of backlash instead of stardust! On April 14, this space-bound diva took a wild eleven-minute flight alongside an all-star crew—including a former NASA brainiac and Jeff Bezos’s fiancée—making history as the first all-female crew in space since 1963. Yet, as the planets aligned for this celestial ride, the online universe was anything but kind, with conspiracy theories and controversy raining down like meteoric debris. Maybe it’s the tricky vibes of Mercury in retrograde stirring up misunderstandings or Venus playing havoc with public perception? Katy Perry has issued an emotional statement saying she felt like a ‘human piñata’ following backlash from Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin flight.

On April 14, the pop star joined Blue Origin’s New Shepard’s 31st force in a short trip to space, after taking off from Launch Site One in West Texas.

The crew included Perry, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, documentary producer Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyễn, journalist and CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, plus author and journalist Lauren Sánchez, who also happens to be the fiancée of Blue Origin founder, Jeff Bezos.

The mission saw the crew up in the suborbital craft and floating in the capsule in what was a pivotal moment in history.

There were a lot of theories discussed online regarding the mission, with some people believing that they had proof that the whole thing was fake.

Remarkably, their trip was only 11 minutes long.

They became the first all-female crew to visit space since Valentina Tereshkova was sent up in 1963, in a move that has been met with a fair bit of controversy.

Katy Cats have since rallied together to show their support for the star by paying for a billboard in New York’s Time’s Square that wished her luck ahead of her upcoming tour.

Responding to a fan’s post of the billboard on Instagram, Perry – who is said to now be regretting certain aspects of the space trip – wrote: “I’m so grateful for you guys. We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond.

“I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year! Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me.

“My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself’ and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.”

Perry said that ‘when the “online” world tries to make me a human Piñata’, she takes ‘it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed’.

“What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth,” she added.

The ‘Roar’ singer concluded her statement by saying: “What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that co l’m not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary, l’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS.”

That’s certainly one way to shut out the noise.
