Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Pull a Houdini on Their Wedding Plans—Are Protest Fears the Real Plot Twist?

Added on June 24, 2025 inCelebrity News Cards

So, here we are—Venice, the city of endless canals and even more endless drama. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are getting hitched, but instead of a smooth sail, they’re navigating through a tempest of protests and disruption threats. Cue the cosmic irony: with the sun flirting with Gemini’s dual nature, one can’t help but wonder—is the universe hinting that even billionaires can’t escape a little chaos before saying “I do”? Amidst cries of “pay your fair share,” Bezos and Sanchez have scrapped their original plan of docking the $500 million superyacht, Koru, at San Giorgio Maggiore. Instead? They’re eying a helicopter ride into the city—which, by the way, has shockingly few helipads. Talk about flying by the seat of your pants! Expect a grand entrance landing at Lido, followed by a water taxi dash to their exclusive isle—where, bless their hearts, the party will go off without a hitch. But with activists turning St. Mark’s Square into a battleground demanding Bezos flex his wallet for taxes, this wedding is about as low-key as a fireworks show in a library. So, will love conquer protest, or will the sky-high stakes keep them grounded? Only time (and maybe the stars) will tell. LEARN MORE.

Ahead of the ceremony in Venice, the couple has faced threats from protesters who vowed to disrupt the event.

These threats have now prompted the soon-to-be-married couple to change the location where Jeff Bezos’s boat will be moored, while they use an alternative arrangement to arrive in the city.

After days of protests in Venice over Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s high-profile nuptials, the couple has reportedly altered their plans for how they intend to arrive in the city.

Currently, the Amazon CEO and his spacefaring fiancée are off the coast of Croatia aboard Bezos’ $500 million superyacht, Koru.

They were originally expected to arrive in Venice via the vessel and leave it moored off the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, which is the venue for the wedding.

Now, due to “safety fears,” Bezos and Sanchez are reportedly planning to arrive by helicopter, even though there are very few helipads in the city, per the Daily Mail.

The most likely route they may take is to fly into the helipad on Lido and then take a water taxi to the island for the wedding.

Once at the location, they are expected to be safe, as the island has been rented out exclusively for the festivities. It is also a private venue that has previously hosted meetings for G7 leaders.

With only a few days left to the nuptials on June 27, protests have intensified in the city of Venice.

Two activist groups, Greenpeace and Everyone Hates Elon, led Monday’s demonstrations, even unveiling a massive banner featuring an image of the Amazon founder alongside a message in bold font and large letters.

“If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more tax,” read the banner, which was unfurled in the lagoon city’s iconic St. Mark’s Square.

The groups also released a joint statement to emphasize their demands, pointing out that Bezos pays far less in taxes than someone with his level of wealth should.

“Jeff Bezos is the second-richest man in the world, yet is reported to pay a 1.1% true tax rate,” they said. “The multi-million-dollar wedding is reportedly happening over three days, with the wedding ring alone worth as much as $5 million.”

“As governments talk about hard choices and struggle to fund public services, Jeff Bezos can afford to shut down half a city for days on end just to get married,” a rep for Everyone Hates Elon also commented.

Last week, local protesters vowed to take extreme measures to disrupt the $7 million wedding festivities.

“We’ll throw ourselves into the canal if we have to, we’ll make sure they choke on their wedding cake,” some of the individuals involved in the movement said, per the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine.

At the time, the group also clarified that their protest is not rooted in opposition to the “hubris” and “entitlement” of Bezos, whom they labeled as a “technocrat feudal overlord.”

Some of the activists also threatened to blockade the main waterways leading into Venice and arm themselves with water guns.

Another insider also claimed that Bezos and Sanchez hired the local bakery Rosa Salva Venezia to serve guests a variety of rich pastries during the wedding.

The bakery is well-known for treats such as tiramisu, cream-filled pastries, and a traditional Italian fried dessert called fritelle.

After the festivities, guests will reportedly receive handcrafted glassware made by the local artisan brand Laguna B as a souvenir. These glass pieces come in various bright colors, striped and floral patterns, and will be accompanied by other “opulent” gifts from Bezos and Sanchez.
