Jason Biggs has opened up about what kickstarted his sobriety journey amid previous struggles with alcohol.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 26 years since Bigg’s breakout role as horny high schooler, Jim Levenstein, in American Pie.
The movie franchise sort of transcended our teenage years with so many memorable references.
From ‘that one time in bandcamp’ to ‘MILF, MILF, MILF’, the four high school pals Jim (Biggs), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Oz (Chris Klein), and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) played their part at the peak of American comedy in the early 2000s.
Off-screen, however, the main character of four out of the nine films was facing an ‘obsession’ with drink.
While promoting his directorial debut, Untitled Home Invasion Romance, on The View, Biggs was congratulated on being eight years sober.

“When did you realise it was time to make a change, and what advice would you give to people who are starting on that journey?” Sunny Hostin asked.
“It’s something I am really proud of, and it’s certainly been difficult,” Biggs, who has been sober since 2017, said.
“I think for me, I just couldn’t stop thinking about it.
“For me, it was like, I’m very lucky insofar that my bottom wasn’t in the basement, at least in terms that I wasn’t arrested, I didn’t hurt — well, there’s damage, but not the kind you can read about, certainly.
“And it could have been worse.”
He explained that he couldn’t escape ‘the snakes in my head’ and that ‘they kept getting worse and worse and worse’.

“And it becomes all-consuming, and I couldn’t be present, and I couldn’t be focused. It was a clear issue,” Biggs added.
“And then when Jenny got pregnant, that was sort of a wake-up call for me,” he said of his wife of over 16 years, Jenny Mollen.
The mum-of-two has been credited with making him turn the corner and get help.
“They say you got to get sober for yourself. I agree and disagree,” said Biggs.
“I believe that when you first get sober, whatever the reason is, it doesn’t matter. Whether it’s for someone else, your family — ‘Jenny was pregnant, I got to get sober’ — whatever it is.”
“I think, in order to stay sober, you have to do it for yourself,” he continued. “So that’s what got me in. What keeps me there is I need to do it for myself. Advice is, ask for help.”
