The Bear has quietly cooked its way into our hearts, becoming one of FX’s finest culinary dramas — and yet here we are, whispering about whether this beloved kitchen saga has just one more course left, with season 5 on the horizon. Now, last year’s renewal didn’t hint at a final bow, but Jamie Lee Curtis’s recent Instagram declaration of “FINISHED STRONG!” has fans stirring the pot with thoughts that this might be the series’ closing chapter. It’s almost cosmic, isn’t it? Like Mercury retrograding through the story’s plotlines, forcing a hard stop on a tale we just didn’t want to end. Curtis’s words about “completing the story of this extraordinary family” feel like that zodiac nudge saying, time to serve the last plate. But hey, creatives are like the mutable signs—always ready to pivot—so maybe we’re just looking at a season finale and not The End. The question begs: Should The Bear season 5 be its swan song, or are there more recipes left unsaid in this kitchen?
The Bear has become one of FX’s most critically acclaimed and beloved series, but its run may be nearing an end with season 5. When the series was renewed for a fifth season last year, the studio gave no indication that it would be the final season. However, an Instagram post from Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Donna Berzatto, has fans wondering if the story is about to wrap up.
“FINISHED STRONG!” Curtis wrote on Instagram. “Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with. Got to finish it out with my baby Berzatto bear.“
Curtis may simply be saying goodbye to her character, but the phrase “completing the story of this extraordinary family” certainly sounds like it could signal a definitive ending.
While speaking on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast last year, Jeremy Allen White said The Bear was initially supposed to end with the fourth season, but creator Christopher Storer had an idea to keep it going. White even indicated at the time that there were no plans for the fifth season to be the last, but at the end of the day, it all depends on Storer.
“The fourth season was going to be the last,” he said. “Chris [Storer, creator and co-showrunner] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’ And, I don’t know, that could happen again around this holiday time. There’s no plans for it to be the last. There’s no plans right now for us to do more. I think it’s just all dependent on what Chris wants to do. But if it was up to me? I just feel so lucky to read Chris’ words, and also to work with these actors who’ve become some of my best friends, so I’d do it for a very long time.“
The Bear has been one of my favourite series of the past few years. Still, it’s not the kind of show that can run forever, especially as its leads, Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, continue to fill their schedules with new projects, making it harder to reunite the cast. As bittersweet as it would be to say goodbye to the Berzattos, I’d rather see The Bear go out on top with season five.
What do you think, should The Bear season 5 be the end?
