In a worldwide deal, Los Angeles-based distributor Indie Rights has picked up all rights, outside of the U.K. and Ireland, for Swing Bout, an Irish crime thriller from writer-director Maurice O’Carroll set in the world of women’s boxing.

The deal, between Indie Rights and Orion Productions, the Irish shingle founded and run by Swing Bout producer Sinéad O’Riordan, covers TVOD, SVOD, AVOD, and home entertainment rights.

Ciara Berkeley stars in Swing Bout as Tony, an up-and-coming fighter preparing for the biggest match of her career. The film plays out in real time from the dressing room up to her ring walk as Tony, according to the film’s blurb, fights her way through a “night of deceit, betrayal, and life-altering decisions.”

O’Carroll said he was “delighted” to collaborate with Indie Rights on the global launch of the film, saying the company’s “commitment to independent filmmakers gives us confidence that the film will find its audience internationally.”

Swing Bout premiered at the Dublin Film Festival in 2024 and had its international bow at Germany’s Oldenburg Film Festival, which is gaining a reputation as a platform for indie Irish cinema. Indie Rights is planning a strategic digital release for the film early 2026. Orion, which handled a 4-week indie cinema bow in the U.K. and Ireland, retains all digital rights for Swing Bout in those territories.

Swing Bout was shot on location at Cork’s iconic stadium, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, renowned among fight fans for the 1995 rematch between former British super middleweight champ Chris Eubank and Irish fighter Steve Collins aka, “The Celtic Warrior”. (Collins won, retaining his WBO title).
