The Inbetweeners comeback ‘is officially on with all four original cast members’ sounds like a hard-to-believe line from Jay Cartwright himself.
Well, believe it or not, the creators of the Channel 4 show – which aired from 2008 to 2010 – said in a joint statement to The Sun that they’re making a sensational return to our screens.
Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh, friends).”
Banijay UK’s chief executive, Patrick Holland, also added that he was ‘delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them’.
He said: “They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new.”
The company said the new deal ‘unlocks the rights and potential to bring The Inbetweeners back for new audiences across a range of platforms, including film, TV and stage’.

It also means that characters Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), Neil (Blake Harrison) and Simon (Joe Thomas) will all be featuring.
But over the past few years, Buckley in particular hasn’t been so keen on a reunion, having done so well away from the show.
In 2022, he became the first international ‘Cameo millionaire’ after netting $1 million from the fan engagement platform.
Thanks to Cameo, his reported weekly income was estimated to be around £10,000 a week, the Daily Mail reported in 2023.
Cameo co-founder Martin Blencowe said at the time: “James was incredibly popular from the start, but he’s stayed committed to his fans, always keeping an accessible price (even during his busiest periods) and giving his all to make each Cameo special.”
Buckley – who hasn’t played Jay since the second film in 2014 – also said that no amount of money would make him want to revive the character.

As a guest on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X in 2022, he said: “Not because I don’t think I would have an amazing time doing it, because I know I would.
“I love the boys, I love the writers. Doing The Inbetweeners was the best job in the world.
“All we did was muck around all day long and they filmed us doing it, and at the end of the day, we might have had an episode, or a TV, you know, or a film or something. It was the best job in the world.
“But it might – you know, as I’m getting older – it’s looking like it might be the only thing that I do professionally that is universally loved. There’s not enough money in the world for me to spoil that.”
I guess his inner Jay was chatting s**t as always – things we love to see.
