Is it just me, or does the universe seem to have a peculiar sense of humor when it comes to the love lives of “Home Alone” stars? With Mercury hanging in a mischievous dance this month, maybe it’s no coincidence that Daniel Stern—the ever-clumsy Marv Murchins—has landed himself in hot water over a rather scandalous charge related to soliciting prostitution in California. Yep, the same guy you remember trying to outwit a pint-sized troublemaker now finds himself tangled in real-life legal drama. And this isn’t exactly the first messy headline from the vintage Christmas comedy crew; just over a year ago, fellow co-star Devin Ratray pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges. It makes you wonder—do the stars really align for these actors off-screen, or is 2026 just the year the universe decided to throw a little chaos their way? Another “Home Alone” star has gotten into trouble with the law for their relationship with the opposite sex.

Daniel Stern, who played Marv Murchins in the beloved ’90s franchise, has been hit with the book for allegedly trying to enjoy some bedroom action illegally. His crime occurred over a year after a former co-star pled guilty for domestic violence.

The 90s “Home Alone” series features two Christmas comedy films directed by Chris Columbus. Macaulay Culkin played the lead role, Kevin McCallister, with the movies following his adventures after he was left alone during the holidays.

According to new reports, Stern has been hit with a criminal charge for allegedly soliciting prostitution in California. The drama began last month when the actor received a citation for trying to hire an escort at a hotel in Camarillo.

Stern only received a ticket at the time and might have believed he escaped scot-free until his case was brought to the Ventura County DA’s Office on Friday, January 9. A rep from the DA’s Office noted that Stern’s case was submitted to them by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

TMZ reported that prosecutors chose to formally file criminal charges against Stern for soliciting prostitution, and his arraignment was set for Tuesday morning. However, it appears Stern may skip the hearing, with sources noting his attorney could appear in his stead.

The TV Personality Suffered A Medical Emergency Last October

Stern’s criminal charge drama comes months after he made headlines for a medical emergency. The incident occurred on October 7, 2024, when the Ventura County Fire Department responded to a call for help at a residence in Somis, California.

Sources claimed the individual in need of help was Stern, but it was unclear what type of medical emergency he had experienced. The Ventura County Fire Department noted that the individual was assessed by firefighters and eventually transported to a nearby hospital.

Both sources and a rep for Stern confirmed he was later released and was doing fine. The health scare occurred the same year another “Home Alone” star, Devin Ratray, made waves for pleading guilty to domestic violence allegations stemming from a 2021 incident.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Ratray, who portrayed Buzz McCallister in the ’90s holiday movies, pled guilty to two counts of domestic violence in February 2024. His decision stemmed from a plea deal to avoid jail time.

Instead of imprisonment, Ratray was ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol test, complete a Batterers Intervention Program, and cover all the victim’s legal expenses. He was also placed on a three-year probation and was told to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend.

Ratray initially pleaded not guilty to the crimes in 2022 after he was slammed with multiple charges. The list included felony domestic assault, battery by strangulation, misdemeanor domestic assault, and battery. He was arrested in 2021 and released on a $25k bond.

Ratray’s domestic violence drama began in December 2021 when his ex accused him of attacking her in a drunken rage. She explained that they had been on a trip to Oklahoma City to attend a Con, which her then-beau was reluctant to attend.

The accuser claimed Ratray did not “want to be known for something he did 30 years ago,” but attended nonetheless for the money. Their trip seemingly went smoothly despite the actor’s heavy drinking until his ex gave out his autograph to two women for free.

The victim alleged that Ratray berated her from the bar to their hotel room, where he finally exploded and attacked her. She accused him of pushing, punching, and pressing his hands against her throat and mouth while yelling, “This is how you die.”

A month before Stern got cited for trying to hire an escort, Variety reported that Culkin had weighed in on starring in another “Home Alone” project. During one of the stops of his “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour, he revealed he was open to the right idea.

According to Culkin, he would happily hop on another chance to play Kevin McCallister, but he wanted it to be a father-son plot. His idea revolved around Kevin as an overworked dad with little time for his son until he gets locked out of the house during the holidays.

“[Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me,” Culkin explained. On the other hand, the ’90s “Home Alone” director, Columbus, believed the holiday comedy should not be recreated but cherished in its original form.
