Nearly three decades after we were first introduced to the hot-headed hockey player who’s not half-bad at golf, Happy Gilmore is getting a sequel – and the full trailer has just been released.

Adam Sandler is reprising his iconic role alongside some of his legendary co-stars from the 1996 film, while a host of new faces will join him, too.

Prepare to enjoy some incredible celebrity cameos when you finally tune into Happy Gilmore 2, as loads of A-listers have assumed roles in the sequel.

The likes of Travis Kelce, Ben Stiller, Eminem and Post Malone will all appear, while Sandler’s wife, Jackie and their two daughters, Sunny and Sadie, also get in on the fun.

So it’s set to be quite the family affair, with a good helping of famous faces. Sadly, several stars who were part of the original Happy Gilmore line-up have passed away in the years since its release – but the second instalment is set to sweetly pay tribute to these late actors.

For those who don’t know, Netflix is behind Happy Gilmore 2, and the comedy will be released on the streaming platform next month, on 25 July.

It is set to explore Happy Gilmore’s return to the golf green, 30 years on from discovering his putting prowess, which allowed him to earn enough money to pay off the IRS for his beloved grandmother.

It seems Happy has lost some of his golfing abilities after taking a few years away from the course, as he looks a bit rusty when he’s taking swings.

However, he’s got no choice but to dust off his clubs, as he’s got to find a way to pay for his daughter’s tuition at a ballet school.

Fans were given a first look at the highly anticipated film back in December, but now the full trailer has dropped.

It’s received a great reception since it was first released 24 hours ago; however, many people have been making the same complaint.

Take a look at the trailer here:

What people aren’t happy about, though, is the fact that the film is being released on Netflix.

Fans have been left gutted that they won’t get to enjoy the full cinematic experience when they watch Happy Gilmore 2 for the first time.

One said: “It feels criminal that this isn’t getting a theatrical release,” while another joked: “Netflix is the new ‘straight to VHS’.”

A third added: “This movie in the cinema would be insane!”

A fourth commented: “This should have been released in theatres…”

And a fifth chimed in, saying: “I hope this gets a theatre release, it deserves one before going to Netflix. But I’m definitely going to watch this movie.”

Sandler has previously discussed feeling a lot of pressure about the reception of Happy Gilmore 2, as it has a lot to live up to, given the success of the original film, which came out 29 years ago.

During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show late last year, the comedy star said: “It’s on your mind.

“We’ve got a lot of good stuff, and we just want to make sure that it all comes together and keeps it going from start to finish, and that’s the goal. We’ll see.

“We’re definitely nervous, but we feel some sort of confidence.”

A bit of criticism is par for the course upon the release of any sequel, but luckily for Sandler, fans have been full of praise for his acting abilities after watching the trailer.

Constructing a DIY home cinema set-up might be the only way to get around this one, folks.
